Queen\u2019s Brian May<\/a> has declared that he has no desire to tour again as he is done with \u201csacrificing freedom\u201d.<\/p>\n The legendary guitarist <\/a>spoke about the band\u2019s future while explaining that he wanted to spend more time with his family and on astrophysics. <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI made a decision 18 months ago that I didn\u2019t want to tour again,\u201d May, 79, told the Times<\/a> on Saturday. <\/p>\n \u201cA close family friend died when we were in the States, so I said to my tour manager, \u2018I\u2019ll just nip home for a few days and come back.\u2019 She looked me in the eyes and said, \u2018You know you can\u2019t do that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n May said that while he loved to perform and travel, \u201cthe trade-off is sacrificing your freedom. I have a wife [Anita Dobson], grandchildren and a lot of astrophysics I want to do, so I\u2019m thinking maybe 50 years is enough.\u201d<\/p>\n However, May suggested that the rock band, which has toured with different singers \u2013 first Paul Rodgers and then Adam Lambert<\/a> \u2013 since the death of Freddie Mercury<\/a> in 1991, could do something \u201cfairly revolutionary\u201d in creating a new experience for fans. <\/p>\n \u201cNot as Abba<\/a> did, but along those lines,\u201d May said, referring to the hugely popular Abba Voyage experience, which uses holograms known as \u201cAbbatars\u201d, which \u201cperform\u201d at a purpose-built venue in London. <\/p>\n \u201cLast year I went to the Sphere [in Las Vegas], my juices started flowing and I sketched out a whole Queen show. I think an immersive experience is still on the cards and it could conquer time and space, but currently you can\u2019t make it without AI and I have serious misgivings about that.\u201d<\/p>\n May has been a vocal opponent of AI and has repeatedly urged Prime Minister Andy Burnham<\/a> to block usage of the technology \u201cbefore it\u2019s too late\u201d.<\/p>\n In August, he expressed his distaste for AI<\/a> after checking what Meta AI would create when he asked it what the cover of Queen\u2019s 1980 record The Game looked like. <\/p>\n \u201cThis is what it gave me! Good job, eh?\u201d he wrote on Instagram. \u201cSo this is the kind of intelligence that will soon be ruling the world ??! Well, great. Maybe this is the time to realise WE ACTUALLY DON’T NEED AI !!!\u201d<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cI believe the price we are about to pay for this ‘inevitable’ development is way too high. We must not allow these hideous Data Centres to be built in the UK. They will destroy our beautiful country, like they are already destroying beautiful America.<\/p>\n \u201cDear Andy \u2013 you must stop it now. Before it\u2019s too late.\u201d<\/p>\n Queen last toured with Lambert as lead singer for their Rhapsody world tour, which concluded in February 2024. <\/p>\n Later that year, May suffered a \u201cminor stroke\u201d <\/a>and temporarily lost movement in his left arm. In a health update <\/a>shared on Alan Titchmarsh\u2019s ITV show Love Your Weekend, he said he was lucky to have recovered.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been lucky, I get these things, but I seem to be able to get out of them,\u201d May said. \u201cThey give you a wake-up call.\u201d<\/p>\n He returned to the stage in 2025 at Coachella festival, when he made a surprise appearance with Benson Boome for a rendition of Queen\u2019s 1975 hit \u201cBohemian Rhapsody\u201d. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Want to bookmark your favourite articles and stories to read or reference later?
