That declared a state of emergency amid an apparent outbreak.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-declares-state-disaster-emergency-response-ongoing-measles-outbreak\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Per a release\u00a0<\/a>from the\u00a0Governor&#8217;s\u00a0website, Hochul said that the executive order will allow officials to\u00a0&#8220;respond more swiftly to the outbreak.&#8221;\u00a0With the number of cases rapidly rising.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>New York Declares State of Emergency Over Measles Outbreak<\/p>\n<p>Hochul\u00a0also added that the order will\u00a0allow\u00a0officials to\u00a0give\u00a0healthcare professionals\u00a0more adequate time. For\u00a0state residents&#8217;\u00a0vaccinations. And testing\u00a0if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After reviewing the latest data on measles cases in New York State, I am declaring a State Disaster Emergency. To strengthen our ongoing efforts to confront this disease,&#8221;\u00a0Governor Hochul said in the release. No one should get seriously ill or die from a vaccine-preventable disease. That is why I have taken steps to increase the number of health professionals who can vaccinate and test. These emergency measures will protect New Yorkers. And support our community partners as they work tirelessly to address the spread of this disease.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Measles is a contagious and aggressive respiratory disease that causes a rash and fever. Even\u00a0more dangerous, measles can reduce the immune\u00a0system&#8217;s\u00a0ability to fight other infections like pneumonia. As of October 3, there have been seven confirmed cases in New York City.
