Queen Camilla<\/a> has expressed her sadness at the death of author Lord Jeffrey Archer, sending her sympathies to his family during this “time of sorrow”.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The former Conservative MP turned bestselling writer, who was imprisoned for perjury and perverting the course of justice in 2001, died suddenly on Monday at the age of 86<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Camilla, in her message of condolence as founder of the Queen\u2019s Reading Room charity, of which Lord Archer was a supporter, said that “wherever the next page turns to”, she wished him “champagne and shepherd\u2019s pie in abundance” \u2013 a nod to the famous parties he used to host.<\/p>\n

She described him as “not without flaw” but an “irrepressible life force through all the many differing chapters of his life”.<\/p>\n

Lord Archer even made an appearance at Camilla’s recent Chatsworth Festival<\/a> in September, discussing how to build successful novels.<\/p>\n

While it’s understood they were not close personal friends, Jeffrey would always send the Queen a personally inscribed pre-publication copy of all his new novels.<\/p>\n

This included a special edition of his latest and final work, Adam & Eve, which she “much enjoyed” reading over the summer. The novel was published on Tuesday, one day after his death.<\/p>\n

In her statement on Tuesday, Camilla, 79<\/a>, said: “Seldom does an author get to live a life as rich, varied and colourful as any of the characters in their books, or with as many surprising plot twists.<\/p>\n

“Jeffrey Archer was an exception to the end. It was therefore with sadness that I learned of his death yesterday, on the eve of publication of his final work and so soon after appearing at my Queen\u2019s Reading Room Festival.<\/p>\n

“My sympathies go to Mary and the family at this time of sorrow. I hope it may be some consolation for them to know what pleasure Jeffrey brought to me and to so many millions of readers through the pages of his works.<\/p>\n

Signing her message with “Camilla R”, she added: “While he was not without flaw, his friends will recall him as an irrepressible life force through all the many differing chapters of his life.<\/p>\n

“Wherever the next page turns to, I trust there will be champagne and shepherd\u2019s pie in abundance.”<\/p>\n

Jeffrey Archer passed away at home on Monday aged 86, his publisher HarperCollins confirmed.<\/p>\n

The announcement described his death as occurring “suddenly and peacefully at his home between writing sessions”.<\/p>\n

Lord Archer had a successful career as a novelist alongside politics and was made a life peer in 1992 as Lord Archer of Weston-super-Mare, becoming the Conservatives\u2019 choice to fight for the party in the first London mayoral election.<\/p>\n

His campaign ended when his political career crashed in 2001 when he was sentenced to four years in prison for perjury and perverting the course of justice<\/a>.<\/p>\n
