(Photo from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shutterstock.com\/image-photo\/close-gentleman-sitting-on-steps-touching-1784352362\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shutterstock<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>New York City filed a lawsuit in federal court late Sunday alleging that a personal injury law firm used false accident narratives and litigation to pursue compensation from the city.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.alm.com\/a7\/db\/9f6ffac24f678b04095ba0ac795e\/ashercomplaint.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">suit<\/a> filed in the U.S. Southern District of New York against Ryan Asher, Roberta Asher and Asher &amp; Associates was brought under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act as well as the New York City False Claims Act and the New York State False Claims Act.<\/p>\n<p>The city alleges in the complaint that the defendants repeatedly attributed injuries to defective municipal roadways despite other records indicating that car accidents, assaults or other events were to blame, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/newyorklawjournal\/2026\/10\/05\/nyc-sues-personal-injury-firm-under-rico-claims-it-fabricated-hundreds-of-cases\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">story by Law.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The city claims that the firm could have committed \u201chundreds if not thousands\u201d of racketeering acts over the past 10 years.
