They stabbed him seven times, then ripped the chain off his neck and sped away on the moped.<\/p>\n<p>EMS rushed Mercedes to Jacobi Hospital, where he remained for several days undergoing treatment. He was finally released from the hospital on Monday evening, walking out of the facility to the thunderous applause of fellow officers there to greet him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-137873525\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/HT6QMe8W4AA8vhm.jpg\" alt=\"Bronx detective walks out of hospital days after being stabbed as cops cheer\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" title=\"Suspects accused of stabbing off-duty cop in Bronx robbery attempt are identified 2\"  \/>Days after being stabbed in the Bronx, Detective Jose Mercedes was finally released from the hospital on Monday evening, walking out of the facility to the thunderous applause of fellow officers there to greet him.Photo via X\/@NYPDPC<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn another incredible feat of strength and determination, Detective Mercedes got up from his wheelchair and walked out of Jacobi Medical Center on his own two feet,\u201d Commissioner Tisch said in a statement. \u201cHundreds of members of the NYPD were there to cheer their brother on. The entire department stands behind Detective Mercedes as he continues his recovery. And the greatest detectives in the world will relentlessly pursue those responsible for this crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tisch asked anyone who may know of the suspects\u2019 whereabouts to come forward.
