Reggie McFadden, the high-energy comedian and actor who broke through on Def Comedy Jam and joined the cast of In Living Color, died in Tanzania in October 2026. He was 57. His sister Bernice confirmed his death after the family was notified by the U.S. State Department, and no exact date or cause was provided.

McFadden was born on November 30, 1968, in Brooklyn, where he grew up alongside his sisters, Bernice and Misty, and brother, Kris. His habit of riding the trains to their final stops, exploring and chatting with whoever he met, gave him a deep well of stories that he folded into his earliest routines.

He began working on his comedy at 18, sharpening his material at open-mic nights in Manhattan coffeehouses before graduating to established comedy clubs. His act blended jokes and storytelling with vivid character work and explosive physical comedy, a fast, outrageous style that quickly drew attention.

Hollywood noticed early. In 1990, McFadden made his film debut as a partygoer in Adrian Lyne’s psychological thriller ‘Jacob’s Ladder’, followed by ‘The Color of Love’ in 1991. That same year, he was invited to perform on HBO’s Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam, the showcase that made him a national name. By late 1992, the 23-year-old was touring with the Def Comedy Jam crew alongside Bill Bellamy and Adele Givens, and in 1993 he continued joining the tour whenever it came through his area.

1993 proved to be his breakout year on television. McFadden played Ricky Thompson on Martin, a role he later described as his big acting break, along with Trey on Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, Tyler Roberts on Coach and an appearance on Viva Cabaret. He then joined Fox’s groundbreaking sketch series In Living Color as a cast member and writer for its fifth and final season, appearing in 23 episodes through 1994. That year, he also played MC Madman in the film ‘The Inkwell’.

In 1996, McFadden took the stage at Montreal’s Just for Laughs festival and fulfilled a longtime dream by performing on Late Show with David Letterman, a booking that came after 12 auditions. He also appeared on Moesha as a ticket scalper that year, followed by Gun in 1997 and Getting Personal in 1998. In November 1997, he headlined the Improv at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, and on December 15, 1998, Comedy Central aired his own half-hour special as part of Comedy Central Presents.

His later screen work included the role of Dad in Adam Sandler’s ‘Little Nicky’ in 2000, Police Officer #2 on Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2001 and Psycho in the 2003 film ‘Road Kings’, originally titled ‘Road Dogs’.

McFadden spent the final 18 years of his life in Tanzania, where he embraced new ventures in entertainment and gold mining. He founded Olduvai Records, a record label that also operated as a private gold-mining company, and in May 2025 he released the album ‘ENJOY, Vol. 1’ on the label. He was the proud father of two sons, Jaron and Myles.

Reggie McFadden leaves behind a body of work that captured the electric spirit of 1990s comedy, from the Def Comedy Jam stage to the final season of one of television’s most influential sketch shows. He was a fearless explorer from the start, and the same restless curiosity that once sent a Brooklyn kid riding the subway to the end of every line eventually carried him halfway across the world to build an entirely new life.

Subway cars rattling to the very end of the line carried a curious Brooklyn teenager into unfamiliar neighbourhoods,…

[36
135591,135592,135593,135594,98,100,99,135595,91741,12267,135596,6131,135597,135598,135599,135600,75,135601,6353,135602,9,24,63,135603,135604,72870,131554,90712,135605
post-366064","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-brooklyn","tag-adele-givens","tag-adrian-lyne","tag-bernice-mcfadden","tag-bill-bellamy","tag-brooklyn","tag-brooklyn-headlines","tag-brooklyn-news","tag-comedy-central","tag-david-letterman","tag-fox","tag-harrahs-lake-tahoe","tag-hbo","tag-jaron-mcfadden","tag-just-for-laughs","tag-kris-mcfadden","tag-lake-tahoe","tag-manhattan","tag-misty-mcfadden","tag-montreal","tag-myles-mcfadden","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-nyc","tag-olduvai-records","tag-reggie-mcfadden","tag-russell-simmons","tag-tanzania","tag-the-improv","tag-u-s-state-department
["GET
