A starry ensemble has been assembled for the upcoming Broadway bow of Tectonic Theatre Project’s documentary play\u00a0Here There Are Blueberries<\/a>. It is\u00a0due to begin November 2 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, in a co-production between Tectonic and La Jolla Playhouse<\/a>. Opening night will be November 9, with the limited run continuing through January 10, 2027. Mois\u00e9s Kaufman<\/a> directs.<\/p>\n

The play details the real-life discovery of a book of Nazi photographs, which showed Nazi officers at a resort during World War II\u2014a resort that was located next to a concentration camp. Kaufman and Amanda Gronich<\/a> (The Laramie Project) co-created the work, which was a finalist for the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and winner of the 2025 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play following an Off-Broadway production at New York Theatre Workshop<\/a>. The Broadway cast will feature some Tectonic members reprising their performances from earlier stagings of the play, including Scott Barrow<\/a>, Kathleen Chalfant<\/a>, and Delia Cunningham<\/a>. Newly joining for Broadway will be Michelle Beck<\/a> (A Raisin in the Sun<\/a>), two-time Tony winner Michael Cerveris<\/a> (Fun Home<\/a>), Brandon Flynn<\/a> (13 Reasons Why), Montego Glover<\/a> (An American Daughter<\/a>), and Conrad Ricamora<\/a> (Oh, Mary!<\/a>). Understudies\u00a0Jeanne Sakata<\/a>, Anna Shafer<\/a>, Marrick Smith<\/a>, and Grant James Varjas<\/a> will round out the company.<\/p>\n

Says Kaufman and Tectonic Theater Project<\/a> Executive Director Matt Joslyn in an earlier\u00a0statement: \u201cFor Tectonic Theater Project, bringing Here There Are Blueberries to Broadway is the culmination of a remarkable journey. These photographs hold a mirror up to our humanity in the most intimate and unsettling way. We have to look at them\u2014not to understand the people in the pictures, but to better understand ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

The play\u00a0premiered in 2022 at La Jolla Playhouse in California, later bowing Off-Broadway via New York Theatre Workshop before embarking on an international tour. <\/p>\n

The Broadway staging\u00a0will feature scenic design by Derek McLane<\/a>, costume design by Dede Ayite<\/a>, lighting design by David Lander<\/a>, sound design by Bobby McElver<\/a>, projection design by David Bengali<\/a>, casting by Stephanie Yankwitt<\/a>, and dramaturgy by Amy Marie Seidel<\/a>. Erin Albrecht will serve as production stage manager.<\/p>\n

Tectonic Theater Project, Brian & Dayna Lee<\/a>, Bruce Roberts<\/a>, Sue Vaccaro<\/a>, and Ricky Stevens<\/a> are producing the Broadway run, with 101 Productions’ Chris Morey<\/a> serving as executive producer. Evan Bernardin Productions<\/a> serves as general managers with production management by\u00a0Sightline Productions<\/a>. The Broadway run is a co-production with La Jolla Playhouse, and being presented in association with Michael Hormel<\/a> and Midnight Theatricals<\/a>.<\/p>\n
