On\u00a0Tuesday\u00a0September 29,\u00a0Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. hosted\u00a0the OMNY Card van\u00a0in\u00a0Middle\u00a0Village to\u00a0provide services to users of the NYC Transit System.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On December 31, 2025, the Metro Card system was retired and replaced by a new way to use the subways and buses without having to swipe a card to gain entrance to subways or\u00a0buses. The OMNY\u00a0(One Metro New York)\u00a0card is the Metropolitan Transit Authority\u2019s new contactless tap and\u00a0pay\u00a0system that allows customers the opportunity to pay their fare by tapping an MTA\u2019s contactless tap-and-go system that replaces the MetroCard for traveling on NYC\u00a0buses\u00a0and subways.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Customers can pay their fares by\u00a0using\u00a0a physical OMNY\u00a0card that can be\u00a0purchased\u00a0for $1.00 and loaded and\u00a0reloaded with\u00a0funds, paid by cash or\u00a0credit card,\u00a0at subway station vending machines and at CVS and\u00a0Walgreens\u00a0pharmacies.\u00a0Customers can also use smart phones to\u00a0purchase\u00a0and load OMNY\u00a0cards via digital wallets such as Apple Pay\u00a0or use\u00a0any credit or debit card with a contactless wave symbol.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Many Queens residents were\u00a0on line\u00a0for\u00a0assistance\u00a0in front of Senator Addabbo\u2019s Middle Village office waiting for service.\u00a0Senator Addabbo\u00a0indicated\u00a0that the OMNY\u00a0Van\u00a0was there to\u00a0assist\u00a0residents to\u00a0apply for Reduced Fare cards or help with the application; transfer funds from\u00a0MetroCards\u00a0to an OMNY\u00a0card; add funds to their OMNY\u00a0cards.\u00a0<\/p>\n
