SAN JOSE, Calif. \u2014 Queen fans treasure Brian May, the band\u2019s longtime guitarist and author of some of the best-loved riffs and solos in classic rock history.<\/p>\n
Yet, they aren\u2019t likely to ever see May tour with Queen again.<\/p>\n
The 79-year-old May reportedly has told The Times<\/a> that he\u2019s decided to stop touring.<\/p>\n \u201cI made a decision 18 months ago that I didn\u2019t want to tour again,\u201d May reportedly said<\/a>. \u201cA close family friend died when we were in the States, so I said to my tour manager, \u2018I\u2019ll just nip home for a few days and come back.\u2019 She looked me in the eyes and said, \u2018You know you can\u2019t do that.\u2019 I love to play, I love to travel, but the trade-off is sacrificing your freedom. I have a wife [the actress Anita Dobson], grandchildren, and a lot of astrophysics I want to do, so I\u2019m thinking maybe 50 years is enough.\u201d<\/p>\n But does that spell the end of Queen<\/a>? Perhaps not.<\/p>\n The band is currently exploring some new avenues for how it might be possible to keep Queen music on the road.<\/p>\n \u201cMay and drummer Roger Taylor are working hard to figure out a solution, although May\u2019s not too keen on the use of AI to bring their vision to life. Taylor told The Times that the pair wanted to do \u2018something fairly revolutionary,\u2019 along the lines of ABBA\u2019s holographic Voyage experience,\u201d according to a story published by Paste.<\/p>\n Of course, some might suggest that Queen would be perfect for a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Technically speaking, that wouldn\u2019t constitute a tour \u2014 since it\u2019s the fans who are doing the traveling, not the band. And, indeed, May appears to be interested in the Sphere<\/a>, where Metallica just kicked of its multi-month residency over the weekend<\/a>. But he also has some major reservations about the Las Vegas venue<\/a>.<\/p>\n
