The New York City Department of Transportation is building two bus boarding islands on Jay Street in Downtown Brooklyn.<\/p>\n
NYC DOT officials say that while they are resurfacing the road there, they will build the islands, which they say will reduce bus delays and improve safety.<\/p>\n
City sources tell News 12 the first island will route cyclists so that there is no crossover with buses. The second island will be for buses during layovers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s good, people can sit down and rest,” said commuters like Angeline Gillespie. <\/p>\n
The changes bring construction and temporary changes to bus stops, leaving some commuters like Rosa Flores confused.<\/p>\n
\u201cI’m disappointed. I\u2019m going to find out where the street is because Brooklyn is not my home. I live in the Bronx. I am lost right now. I don\u2019t know where I am going. I was taking this bus for more than 20 years. It was unnecessary. They didn\u2019t have to do that. It was safe for us to say here. It was unnecessary,” said Flores.<\/p>\n
People like Nakia Benjamin say it has potential.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom what I think, I see it could be a good idea, but I don\u2019t know for sure yet,” said Benjamin.<\/p>\n
