New York\u2014The Ethical Gem Fair is returning to Brooklyn, New York, next weekend from Oct. 15-17.<\/p>\n
The trade-only event will take place at Brooklyn Metal Works, a metalsmithing studio and gallery located at 640 Dean St.<\/p>\n
The fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s organized by Ethical Gem Suppliers<\/a>, a collective of gemstone suppliers dedicated to \u201cfostering transparent supply chains that uplift artisanal mining and cutting communities worldwide.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n The event is designed to present jewelers, designers, retailers, and students with an opportunity to shop and learn from those at the forefront of the responsible sourcing movement.\u00a0<\/p>\n Exhibitors at this year\u2019s show include Anza Gems, Capricorn Gems, Columbia Gem House, Nature\u2019s Geometry, Agere Gems, Nineteen48, and Perpetuum Jewels.<\/p>\n \u00a0Related stories will be right here \u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n On the last two days of the gem fair, there will be 45-minute educational sessions followed by 15 minutes of Q&A. <\/p>\n The sessions will begin on Oct. 16 at noon with Anza Gems presenting \u201cMoyo Gems: Updates From Their Directors in Tanzania and Kenya.\u201d<\/p>\n Norbert Massey and Esther Njunge of Pact, the nonprofit development organization that\u2019s involved in the operation of Moyo Gems, will join the conversation virtually.<\/p>\n At 3 p.m., Capricorn Gems and Nineteen48 will present \u201cAustralia & Sri Lanka: Sapphire and Their Varieties in These Source Countries.\u201d<\/p>\n On Oct. 17 at noon, Agere Gems and Nature\u2019s Geometry will discuss \u201cEthiopia & Brazil: Para\u00edba Tourmaline in the News.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n Finally, at 3 p.m. Columbia Gem House and Perpetuum Jewels will present \u201cNomenclature: Latest CIBJO (and Few Countries) Definitions for Synthetics\/Man-Made\/Lab-Grown.\u201d<\/p>\n Other highlights include Anza Gems\u2019 debut of faceted gems from its newest cutter, Rana Levy<\/a>, a precision cutter with a background in physics. <\/p>\n There will also be QR codes at the show allowing people to participate in Columbia Gem House\u2019s online fundraiser. <\/a><\/p>\n Registration is free and open now on the Ethical Gem Suppliers\u2019 website.<\/a><\/p>\n
