{"id":368073,"date":"2026-10-08T18:32:12","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T18:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/368073\/"},"modified":"2026-10-08T18:32:12","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T18:32:12","slug":"american-airlines-flight-divert-to-new-york-for-bathroom-emergency-nbc-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/368073\/","title":{"rendered":"American Airlines flight divert to New York for bathroom emergency \u2013 NBC New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A flight bound for Dallas from Madrid made an unexpected diversion Tuesday when the crew learned that the majority of bathrooms on board the aircraft were out of order. <\/p>\n<p>The scheduled 10-hour American Airlines flight instead veered off to JFK Airport in New York after six of the plane&#8217;s eight bathrooms went out of commission. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have only two potties operating on board,\u201d the pilot radioed over to an air traffic controller. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou said only two potties, is that right?\u201d the air traffic controller replied. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s affirmative,&#8221; the pilot radioed back.<\/p>\n<p>The FAA confirmed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/10\/07\/travel\/american-airlines-flight-broken-bathrooms-landing.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The New York Times<\/a> that the &#8220;inadequate number of operational lavatories&#8221; prompted the decision to divert the plane.
