{"id":368133,"date":"2026-10-08T19:36:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T19:36:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/368133\/"},"modified":"2026-10-08T19:36:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T19:36:07","slug":"columbus-day-parade-returns-to-fifth-avenue-in-new-york-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/368133\/","title":{"rendered":"Columbus Day Parade returns to Fifth Avenue in New York City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao MvWXB TjIXL aGjvy ebVHC \">NEW YORK (WABC) &#8212; The 82nd Annual Columbus Day Parade returns to New York City&#8217;s Fifth Avenue on Monday, October 12.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">This year&#8217;s celebration holds special significance, commemorating 250 Years of Italian contribution to America, honoring the past while celebrating the traditions.<\/p>\n<p>Join Eyewitness News anchors Sandra Bookmand and Mike Marza along with Kemberly Richardson and Anthony Carlo for live coverage of the parade on Channel 7 and wherever you stream ABC 7 New York starting at noon on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">This year&#8217;s Grand Marshal is Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates and philanthropist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The parade caps a three-day celebration of Italian American heritage, culture, community, and the generations whose contributions have helped shape America.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/columbuscitizens.org\/columbus-day-parade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Columbus Citizens Foundation<\/a> organizes the parade each year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">In addition to the Parade, the organization held a gala to raise scholarship funds and a Wreath-Laying ceremony over the weekend, honoring the civil servants and first responders who contribute to the community and help keep the city safe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The Foundation has awarded nearly $40 million in scholarships to students of Italian heritage who succeed in their studies and contribute to their communities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Anthony Lisi, a first-year medical student at Jefferson University in Philadelphia, recently received a medical scholarship from the Columbus Citizens Foundation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">&#8220;My grandfather always said, &#8216;We stand on the shoulders of the giants who came before us&#8217; and I really embrace that,&#8221; Lisi said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Lisi said receiving the scholarship is especially meaningful because he is the first in his family to attend college.<\/p>\n<p>Watch the parade on Channel 7 and wherever you stream ABC 7 New York starting at noon on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2026 WABC-TV.
