Queen guitarist Sir Brian May has shared the heartbreaking reason why he doesn\u2019t celebrate or mark Freddie Mercury<\/a>\u2019s death after 35 years. <\/p>\n

The English songwriter, 79, revealed that losing his dear friend and Queen frontman Freddie was one of the \u201cmost terrible\u201d days of his life. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a day to avoid because it brings up pain,\u201d May told Metro<\/a> in a new interview on Friday. <\/p>\n

May and Mercury founded the iconic rock band Queen alongside drummer Roger Taylor and bass guitarist John Deacon. <\/p>\n

This November marks 35 years since the legendary singer died in 1991, aged 45, from complications resulting from HIV and AIDS.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe day he died was one of the most terrible days of our lives,\u201d May went on. <\/p>\n

May added that while he doesn\u2019t mark the actual anniversary, he \u201cacknowledges\u201d Mercury all the time. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s in my life very strongly,\u201d he said. \u201cI know Roger [Taylor] feels the same. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere isn\u2019t anything that we do where we don\u2019t refer to him in some way; the times we had together, the values and adventures that we shared.\u201d<\/p>\n

May and Taylor returned to the stage 19 years after Mercury\u2019s death on a four-year international tour with Free and Bad Company frontman Paul Rodgers. <\/p>\n

Following their Rhapsody Tour with Adam Lambert<\/a> from 2019 to 2024, May made a surprise appearance on stage joining Taylor for his final two songs on his London 2026 solo tour. <\/p>\n

On Wednesday, May quickly shut down rumours that Queen won\u2019t ever tour again after 50 years, saying his reported comment was \u201cmisinterpreted\u201d. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a misinterpretation of what I actually said. I have actually never said Queen won\u2019t ever tour again,\u201d the rocker wrote on his personal Instagram<\/a> page. <\/p>\n

\u201cI could never say never. I simply made a personal decision last year to take a break from touring. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been making lots of music, and Roger and I are constantly working together on Queen projects behind the scenes. I don\u2019t know what the future holds. I\u2019m ever open to new adventures!\u201d <\/p>\n

It was during an interview with The Sunday Times<\/a> published on October 4 that May appeared to say the legendary band would never tour again. <\/p>\n

\u201cI made a decision 18 months ago that I didn\u2019t want to tour again,\u201d May was reported as saying. <\/p>\n

\u201cA close family friend died when we were in the States, so I said to my tour manager, \u2018I\u2019ll just nip home for a few days and come back\u2019. She looked me in the eyes and said, \u2018You know you can\u2019t do that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

May went on to say that he loves to play and travel, but that sometimes comes at a cost to \u201cyour freedom\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a wife [actress Anita Dobson], grandchildren and a lot of astrophysics I want to do, so I\u2019m thinking maybe 50 years is enough,\u201d he said at the time. <\/p>\n
