The person who was shot was conscious and receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital as of 5:24 p.m., according to the department.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"5s2f8\">The NYPD said its officers were not involved in the shooting and were not at the scene when it happened.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"4rahu\">Police did not identify the federal agency involved or say what led to the shooting.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"2ful2\">City Councilmember Pierina Sanchez said school staff and mutual aid organizers told her that ICE agents fired through a car&#8217;s windshield and that as many as seven shots were heard. Gothamist has not independently verified those claims.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"er0uf\">\u201cThey&#8217;re terrorizing our communities. They&#8217;re reckless. We want them out of here,\u201d Sanchez said.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"dsdvg\">The incident comes three days after eight elected officials representing the Bronx and Upper Manhattan sent<a href=\"https:\/\/council.nyc.gov\/pierina-ana-sanchez\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2026\/10\/2026.10.05-ICE-Out-of-Target-in-the-West-Bronx-signatures.pdf\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"> a letter<\/a> to Kingsbridge Associates, urging the company and Target to prohibit ICE agents from using the parking lot at 40 W. 225th St. as a staging area.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"creg6\">\u201cOur communities are outraged,\u201d Sanchez and seven other elected officials, including Councilmembers Carmen De La Rosa and Eric Dinowitz and U.S. Rep. Adriano Espaillat, wrote in the Oct. 5 letter. \u201cThis is private property operated by or for Target, where our neighbors shop, work, and bring their families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"f9fj6\">The officials cited reports of ICE activity at the location. It was not immediately clear whether Thursday&#8217;s shooting was connected to that activity.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"ec7lv\">Sanchez, who represents the area, said the shooting occurred near a location where ICE agents have reportedly been staging.
