NEW YORK (TNND) \u2014 Federal law enforcement agents shot a person in New York City on Thursday afternoon, according to authorities. <\/p>\n

The New York Police Department (NYPD) made the announcement on social media, adding that the shooting happened in the Bronx around 4 p.m.<\/p>\n

“The individual who was shot is at a nearby hospital and is currently conscious and receiving medical attention,” NYPD wrote on X<\/a>.”The NYPD was not involved in the incident and was not on scene at the time of the shooting,” police added<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fox News <\/a>reported that the agents involved were with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). <\/p>\n

Federal authorities did not immediately release the person\u2019s identity or say what led up to the shooting.<\/p>\n

An FBI spokesperson told The Associated Press an evidence response team was sent to assist Department of Homeland Security partners at the scene, but offered no further details. <\/p>\n

Video circulating on social media showed a group of apparent protesters screaming vulgarities at a federal agent as officials gathered at the scene.<\/p>\n

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said she was briefed on the shooting. <\/p>\n

“We expect federal authorities to provide a full and transparent accounting of the circumstances surrounding this incident,” the governor wrote on X<\/a>. “New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why.”<\/p>\n
