{"id":368916,"date":"2026-10-09T14:05:16","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T14:05:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/368916\/"},"modified":"2026-10-09T14:05:16","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T14:05:16","slug":"public-advocate-decries-insanity-of-ice-shooting-in-nyc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/368916\/","title":{"rendered":"Public advocate decries &#8216;insanity&#8217; of ICE shooting in NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New Yorkers are demanding answers from the Department of Homeland Security after a federal immigration officer shot and detained a man in upper Manhattan Thursday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Around 300 protesters flooded the scene of the shooting in Marble Hill before marching to the hospital where the wounded man was being treated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Local elected officials including Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, meanwhile, expressed outrage over the shooting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe insanity of this is incredible,\u201d Williams said on \u201cMornings On 1\u201d Friday. \u201cI don\u2019t know how else to describe it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was nothing that was happening that would make people have to disguise themselves as construction workers, surround a man\u2019s car with his 5-year-old son in it, coming from school at 4 o\u2019clock in the afternoon, and shoot him in the neck in the car,\u201d he added. \u201cNothing.
