ALLERTON, The Bronx (WABC) — Two women are dead and another is critical after they were struck by a car that went through an intersection in the Bronx.<\/p>\n
It happened near Allerton and Holland avenues just after 2 p.m. Friday.<\/p>\n
Police say the 81-year-old driver of a Mercedes was unable to stop as he drove through the intersection. Surveillance video shows the car starting off slow and then speeding through, hitting a person in the crosswalk.<\/p>\n
The car then smashed into several others, causing a chain-reaction collision, initially sending the driver and eight others to the hospital.<\/p>\n
“I saw everybody get hit by a car, multiple people get hit by a car and it was horrific,” said one eyewitness.<\/p>\n
Police say the man rear-ended two vehicles and then crashed into two additional vehicles.<\/p>\n
All occupants of the vehicles involved remained on the scene and were taken to the hospital in stable condition. The 81-year-old driver is conscious and alert with minor injuries.<\/p>\n
Businesses nearby had their front windows blown out from the impact. One man who worked nearby said it was ‘traumatizing’ knowing that some of the badly injured victims would not survive.<\/p>\n
“Everybody was screaming, the past 35 years I been in the avenue, I never see like that,” he said.<\/p>\n
There are no arrests at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
