A 31-year-old man has been arrested in New York City following a manhunt for the person allegedly responsible for pushing a woman to her death<\/a> from a 15th-floor balcony as she was holding her 8-month-old daughter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The New York Police Department tracked down Angel Carrasco late Wednesday, hours after identifying him as the prime suspect in Nathaly Ramirez\u2019s death. Investigators said the 23-year-old mother was holding her daughter when she was shoved from the balcony on Olinville Avenue, in the Allerton section of the Bronx, early Tuesday. Both plunged to the ground.<\/p>\n

Ramirez was pronounced dead at a hospital. The baby girl was taken there, as well, and remained in critical condition Wednesday. Authorities believe her mother\u2019s body may have cushioned her fall.<\/p>\n

Officials said Carrasco was hiding out at a friend\u2019s house when police caught up to him. He faces charges of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and assault.<\/p>\n

Police were reviewing security video as part of their investigation. The video shows a man walking away in a hooded sweatshirt as police responded to the scene, police sources said.<\/p>\n

Sources said there was a history of domestic violence at Ramirez\u2019s address, and police were looking to question her ex-boyfriend after the deadly incident.<\/p>\n

A witness who lives in the Allerville Arms apartment building said she heard yelling in the middle of the night before screams led people to find Ramirez\u2019s body outside. A neighbor told NBC New York she heard the young woman pleading with someone before she and her baby plunged from the balcony.<\/p>\n

\u201cI heard her yelling and screaming, \u2018Please don\u2019t do this. My baby. You know my baby is scared. Look at her face,\u2019\u201d the neighbor said. \u201cNext thing you know, I hear her scream, and I see something hit the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n

A high school classmate from the Bronx Leadership Academy who stopped by the growing memorial said he\u2019d remember the young mother as a kind person.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was always cool with everybody. She always talked to everybody,\u201d he said. If she saw someone having a bad day, he said Ramirez would \u201cjoke with them to life their day up.\u201d<\/p>\n
