They\u2019ve been attacking each other for much of the campaign.<\/p>\n
But for the first time in the race for governor, Kathy Hochul and Bruce Blakeman will be squaring off face-to-face Tuesday, Oct. 13, in their only debate.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose who are supportive of an individual who Donald Trump himself has called 100% MAGA have seen the writing on the wall,\u201d Hochul told reporters this week during a press conference held with the MTA.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not paying attention to any individual polls,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Separately, on the campaign trail in the Hudson Valley, Blakeman slammed his opponent\u2019s federal immigration stance.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had to tell our police and sheriffs that they could no longer cooperate with ICE because of Kathy Hochul,\u201d he said, of the state\u2019s recently passed anti-ICE legislation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
New polls released show Hochul leads Blakeman.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Marist University results show she\u2019s ahead by 11 points in a head-to-head match up.<\/p>\n
Emerson College gives the incumbent a slightly larger edge, by 12 points.<\/p>\n
\u201cKathy Hochul wants to talk about anything but her record,\u201d Blakeman said during a campaign stop in Buffalo on Monday, Oct. 5.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe returned $10 billion back in taxes back to New Yorkers just in the five years I\u2019ve been governor. So I\u2019ll put my record up to anybody\u2019s, anytime,\u201d Hochul responded that same day\u00a0<\/p>\n
The governor continues to tie Blakeman, the Nassau County executive, to his most prominent supporter, President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n
His approval ratings continue to plummet in the heavily Blue New York.\u00a0<\/p>\n
For a Democrat, she\u2019s navigated a decent relationship with the president.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But Thursday, she revealed she spoke to Trump about the ICE-involved shooting in Manhattan, demanding the administration pull back enforcement agents and release body camera footage of the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs outraged New Yorkers saw Donald Trump\u2019s untrained ICE agents fire into a vehicle with a child inside, Bruce Blakeman isn\u2019t only running the most pro-ICE ticket in America,\u201d Hochul said campaign spokesman Matthew Jansen in a statement to NY1.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn the debate stage Tuesday, voters will be seeing a clear contrast between \u2018MAGA all the way\u2019 Blakeman and Governor Hochul standing up for working families,\u201d the statement continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Blakeman appears with Trump for the second time since August, in Syracuse Friday at a campaign rally.<\/p>\n
He\u2019s blamed Hochul for high prices.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAll she talks about is Trump, Trump, Trump. First of all, Trump didn\u2019t make us the highest taxed state, Kathy Hochul did. Our utility bills are 70% higher than the national average, Kathy Hochul did that,\u201d he said during a press conference in Buffalo.<\/p>\n
He\u2019s also trying to sell himself as a Republican appealing to Democrats.<\/p>\n
Both are keen on how midterm elections will play into their contest.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Making stops in battleground districts with top national figures.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere have been no atrocities committed by ICE in New York state. In my county, because we cooperated with ICE, we removed 2,000 illegal migrants with criminal records,\u201d Blakeman said during a pres conference Oct. 6 with Rep. Mike Lawler\u00a0<\/p>\n
On fundraising, Blakeman is behind \u2014 although qualifying for taxpayer-funded campaign dollars.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He\u2019s reporting less than $180,000 in coffers.<\/p>\n
Hochul, meanwhile, has over $19 million in campaign cash, according to the latest filing.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s not a lot of time other than to let people know that we\u2019re out there campaigning hard.
