It’s another tough Big 12 road game for the Houston Cougars as they travel out to Manhattan, Kansas this week to take on the Kansas State Wildcats. <\/a><\/p>\n

Houston is ranked No. 22 in the country and is coming off a 27-17 comeback win over UCF in its Big 12 home opener in Week 5. The Cougars scored 27 unanswered points in the second half. <\/p>\n

The Wildcats<\/a> are 3-1 and just had an early bye week, so they’ve got the rest compared to the Cougars. K-State lost to Cincinnati 31-26 on the road in its Big 12 opener in Week 4. <\/p>\n

This is the third road game of the season for Houston and the second Big 12 road game so far. Houston is 1-1 on the road so far, with a tight loss to then No. 13 Texas Tech back in Week 3. The Cougars beat Georgia Southern in Week 4 on the road. <\/p>\n

K-State and Houston have only two previous head-to-head matchups, both coming since UH has joined the Big 12. The series is tied 1-1, with the home side winning both games. Houston lost 41-0 in Manhattan back in 2023 and then upset No. 17 Kansas State in 2024 at TDECU Stadium. <\/p>\n

The Cougars look to win<\/a> their first ever game in Manhattan, but will have to do so without their leading tackler in senior linebacker Jaden Yates, who’s out for this game. It will be a challenge to guard K-State senior quarterback Avery Johnson who’s a dual-threat. Houston senior quarterback Conner Weigman will look to lead the offense in this road environment. <\/p>\n

Kansas State deferred and Houston received to start the game. <\/p>\n

The Cougars opened with an impressive, 12-play, 75-yard drive that took up almost six minutes. Redshirt junior tight end Patrick Overmyer made three catches for 21 yards and the key touchdown reception on fourth-and-goal from the two-yard line. <\/p>\n

K-State called a timeout right before the previous fourth down play that was incomplete. Redshirt junior running back Re’Shaun Sanford got the carries in the backfield.<\/p>\n

Houston 7, Kansas State 0<\/p>\n

K-State picks up one first down due to penalty, but then has to punt. It seemed like Houston had forced a fumble on third down, but it was ruled an incomplete pass. <\/p>\n

The Cougars went on another promising drive. Redshirt sophomore receiver Koby Young took a jet sweep 40 yards deep into K-State territory. However, Houston bogged down and had a settle for a 36-yard field goal that was missed by kicker Jonathan Dimas. It hit the upright. <\/p>\n

Change of Possession<\/p>\n

Kansas State picked up a couple first downs and Johnson found a big gain with his legs on third down. The Wildcats were able to knock down their short field goal. <\/p>\n

Houston 7, Kansas State 3<\/p>\n

UH continued to march down the field. Weigman found senior receiver Trent Walker for a big gain. Weigman also picked up a key fourth-and-one. Overmyer pulled in another touchdown reception. <\/p>\n
