A city democratic socialist congressional candidate has claimed it \u201cdoesn\u2019t even matter\u201d that the illegal migrant wounded by ICE agents<\/a> in The Bronx has a violent criminal history \u2014 and accused the NYPD of villainizing him.<\/p>\n

Democratic Socialists of American darling Darializa Avila Chevalier told lefty streamer Hasan Piker<\/a> that accused gangbanger Oscar Belgal was just being a good dad when he tried to flee the feds with his 5-year-old son in the car Thursday \u2014 and was somehow a victim of his own rap sheet being revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just so angry,\u201d said Chevalier, the Democratic candidate for the 13th Congressional District covering parts of Manhattan and The Bronx, of hearing the illegal migrant\u2019s history as a reputed member of the Trinitarios street gang<\/a> being used against him<\/p>\n

\u201cTo me, it doesn\u2019t even matter,\u201d she told Piker, who agreed.<\/p>\n

\u201cPolice Commissioner [Jessica] Tisch came out, and I understand it\u2019s her role to provide more information,\u201d she said. \u201cBut rather than condemn ICE, rather than condemn the shooting or the events that are taking place, she started to villainize Oscar.<\/p>\n

\u201cPut yourself in Oscar\u2019s shoes,\u201d she added. \u201cYou have your child in the back seat, you\u2019re picking him up from school and all of a sudden you see masked men coming towards your car, banging on it, pull out guns. You\u2019re running. I\u2019m sorry, you\u2019re protecting your child,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe needs to be released,\u201d she said of Belgal, repeating a call by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who suggested the menace was a regular \u201cNew Yorker.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked for parting words, Chevalier told Piker, \u201cF\u2013k ICE and abolish it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Belgal, 28, a reputed member of the Trinitarios street gang<\/a>, picked up his son in the Marble Hill neighborhood shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday when plainclothes ICE agents stormed his SUV and fired into the vehicle when he tried to pull away, wounding him in the neck.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the latest on the Bronx ICE shooting:<\/p>\n

Authorities said Belgal entered the US illegally in 2022, and had amassed a scary rap sheet, including a 2023 armed robbery conviction and a 2025 bust for allegedly selling fentanyl, cocaine and heroin.<\/p>\n

Belgel is detained after the shooting. Reuters<\/p>\n

Tenants at Belgal\u2019s previous Washington Heights apartment building told The Post he also terrorized neighbors with a machete<\/a>, with one local calling him \u201ca menace to society.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Thursday\u2019s shooting rattled the Bronx neighborhood and sparked massive protests in the borough<\/a> calling for federal immigration agents to leave the Big Apple.<\/p>\n

Tisch and Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a DSA member, denounced the federal operation and said the NYPD was not involved or notified of the ICE raid in advance. <\/p>\n

But Chevalier told Piker that Belgal, who is in a federal lockup in Brooklyn, should be released while she doubled down on her earlier call for Tisch to step down<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Stu Smith, an investigative analyst with the Manhattan Institute<\/a>, disagreed.<\/p>\n
