{"id":370972,"date":"2026-10-12T13:22:44","date_gmt":"2026-10-12T13:22:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/370972\/"},"modified":"2026-10-12T13:22:44","modified_gmt":"2026-10-12T13:22:44","slug":"community-holds-vigil-for-woman-pushed-from-balcony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/370972\/","title":{"rendered":"Community holds vigil for woman pushed from balcony"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Bronx community came together Saturday night to honor a woman who police say was pushed off a 15th-floor balcony.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>People gathered in prayer at a community vigil to remember 23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez and pray for the recovery of her 8-month-old daughter, Nova, who remains in critical condition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The candlelight vigil, organized by the New York City Clergy and United Clergy Coalition, took place outside the apartment building on Olinville Avenue in Allerton, where the incident occurred.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the NYPD, Ramirez\u2019s estranged boyfriend, 31-year-old Angel Carrasco of Highbridge, <a href=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/traffic_and_transit\/2026\/10\/06\/police-woman-killed-baby-critically-injured-after-being-pushed-from-balcony\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pushed Ramirez and their daughter off the balcony<\/a> around 4 a.m. Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Survivors of domestic violence attended Saturday\u2019s vigil to show support for the family and remember Ramirez.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve lived through that fire, and I know what it&#8217;s like to try to get away from your abuser, so that&#8217;s why I came,\u201d said Susan Sanchez, a domestic violence survivor. \u201cIt touched me because a baby, she was thrown. She was innocent, so was Nathaly, she didn&#8217;t deserve to die like that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Earlier Saturday, Ramirez\u2019s mother, brother and grandparents joined a community prayer and remembrance gathering in her honor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ramirez\u2019s grandmother, Minerva, urged women experiencing abuse to seek safety and remember that they cannot change their abusers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen, please, you cannot change them,\u201d she said. \u201cYou have to, when you see that first sign, please walk away because they need help.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Minerva also remembered Ramirez, whom she knew as Michelle, as a happy person who was full of love.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Nathaly I knew as Michelle, and my Michelle was the happiest person ever.
