(You’ve also got a pair of south-facing floor-to-ceiling windows flanked by their original casements, plus some great inlaid floors throughout.) Through a pair of large wood doors is the bedroom, with another oversize window and more than enough space for a king-size bed, your very own reading nook, and two walk-in closets. The kitchen is tucked away in the back, but the skylight keeps it from feeling too cavelike. (The renovated bathroom has one, too.) The tin ceiling dates to around 1900, as do the trio of oversize windows facing the backyard gardens, but the walnut floor is brand new, and the kitchen’s undergone quite a refresh: white Shaker-style cabinetry, Bosch appliances, and a bar counter made out of a salvaged slab of mahogany. As for the rest of the 27-foot-deep common space, you can put in a little corner desk as well as a TV-and-couch operation and shelving. In the bedroom, there are deep-storage areas on top of the closet, and the oversize windows have had the original pocket shutters restored. The bathroom’s been updated, too, with a soaking tub and blocky tiling. The maintenance fees here are a little tamer — $1,100 a month, perhaps because this five-unit co-op is self-managed — and get you your very own washer and dryer in the basement plus access to a shared storage area. The apartment itself is fine, if perhaps slightly dated. (It’s been off the market for 20 years, apparently.) The living-and-dining area is about 200 square feet, and the galley kitchen has a passthrough that can be used as a counter but also sheds a little extra light on the dark cabinetry and jet-black tile. The bedroom, on the other hand, has great oversize windows but a raspberry paint job that maybe warrants running to your closest Sherwin-Williams. As for that terrace, it has 600 square feet to play with and is accessible through the living room (just be mindful of unwanted guests). This week, we have a bona fide CPW home right down the street from the American Museum of Natural History — in an Emory Roth co-op, no less. The floors are hardwood, the nine-foot ceilings beamed, the bedroom well detailed, and the city views wide open. (The current owner seems to be using the living area as a mini-museum and workspace; you have to look hard to find a TV set.) There is no mention of the kitchen in the listing copy, so be prepared for a time capsule, but the bathroom is nice enough. It’s $1,707 for the monthlies, and they get you quite a bit, including a 24-hour doorman, a concierge, a live-in super, access to a roof deck with views of the park, a bike room, and shared laundry.

Sign Up for the Curbed Newsletter

A daily mix of stories about cities, city life, and our always evolving neighborhoods and skylines.

Vox Media, LLC Terms and Privacy Notice

By submitting your email, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Notice and to receive email correspondence from us.

See All

This one-bedroom in Brooklyn Heights, as seen in this listing photo, feels particularly grand thanks to the many…

[6
433,41318,6748,28229,31388,465,12749,2519,7166,13850,9,11,10,7865,72560,107896,1491,13472,461,463,466,62
post-371070","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-new-york","tag-affordable-housing","tag-brooklyn-apartments","tag-brooklyn-heights","tag-brooklyn-real-estate","tag-brownstone-brooklyn","tag-carnegie-hill","tag-carroll-gardens","tag-greenwich-village","tag-manhattan-apartments","tag-manhattan-real-estate","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-headlines","tag-new-york-news","tag-new-york-real-estate","tag-one-bedrooms","tag-prewar-apartments","tag-real-estate","tag-studio-apartments","tag-the-real-estate","tag-under-a-million","tag-upper-east-side","tag-upper-west-side
["GET
