\u201cThe View\u201d hosts weighed into Kelly Clarkson\u2019s \u201cnuclear\u201d debacle<\/a> with Brooklyn novelty store Art of Play.<\/p>\n

The ladies discussed the viral back-and-forth on Monday\u2019s episode of \u201cThe View\u201d after Clarkson took to X (formerly Twitter) this weekend to call out her experience at the store, in which she alleges she was treated as if she couldn\u2019t afford to shop there. The singer compared her experience to Julia Roberts\u2019 character Vivian Ward in \u201cPretty Woman,\u201d resulting in a posting duel between herself and the establishment. <\/p>\n

The \u201cView\u201d panel debated whether or not the incident should have been taken to social media, with Sara Haines opining, \u201cI\u2019m guessing that probably happened to her, but I think when you go nuclear and put it on social media, you\u2019re no longer looking for a solution, because each party is defending themselves.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe View\u201d host Sara Haines admitted that she doesn\u2019t believe that Kelly Clarkson should have gone \u201cnuclear\u201d and called out Brooklyn store Art of Play on social media. (Haines is pictured above on Monday\u2019s episode of \u201cThe View). ABC<\/p>\n

Haines added that such situations result in a \u201ctit-for-tat fight,\u201d and end up \u201cbecoming negative.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alyssa Farah Griffin said that she understood the initial posts, but not the back-and-forth that the celebrity and store then engaged in. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Ana Navarro took a larger issue with it all.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen my planes get delayed, when my planes get canceled and I\u2019m stuck at the airport, sometimes I want to rage tweet, but then I remember all the people who live off of of the airline and are employed and how silly it looks,\u201d Navarro said. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you have a platform of millions of followers \u2026 you have to be careful because it\u2019s an uneven wielding of power and you\u2019re hurting working people,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

Co-host Sunny Hostin added that she thinks that the problem should have been \u201chandled privately.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t feel great about it being on social media,\u201d Hostin said, as Whoopi Goldberg observed that employees at the store may have had a \u201cbad day\u201d or \u201cmisheard\u201d the \u201cSince U Been Gone\u201d singer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re not happy, then you find another groovy store,\u201d Goldberg said, adding that she had plans to check out Art of Play.<\/p>\n

However, the hosts all agreed that they had had great experiences with Clarkson themselves, especially when she was a guest on the show in the past.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Clarkson took to X to blast the store<\/a>, writing, \u201cJust drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy and literally was looked at as if I couldn\u2019t afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWow, dude,\u201d the \u201cAmerican Idol\u201d winner continued, appearing to call out a specific associate she\u2019d interacted with. \u201cYou\u2019re an idiot and just lost a huge sale.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut y\u2019all should go check out Art of Play in Brooklyn if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts character in Pretty Woman. For sure, check it out \ud83d\udc4e,\u201d she concluded to her 8.8 million social media followers.<\/p>\n

In response, the store took to their Instagram page<\/a> Sunday and said that Clarkson had inquired about buying \u201ca one-of-a-kind singing and dancing bird automaton\u201d named Molly, who plays an \u201cimportant role\u201d in the magic shows they host and wasn\u2019t for sale.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt Art of Play whether someone comes in to make a purchase or simply look around for a while, they are equally welcome. We greet everyone who walks in the door with the invitation to \u2018pick things up and play.\u2019 And they do, many stay for hours enjoying our puzzles, games and toys,\u201d the store wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cImagine our surprise when our small local business was suddenly attacked by 8 million people who have never visited our store. It\u2019s been a surreal experience to be the focus of such widespread outrage after just one mention by a celebrity,\u201d the store continued, thanking their friends and patrons for the \u201csupport.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Clarkson didn\u2019t seem too happy with the store\u2019s statement,<\/a> as she clapped back just hours later.<\/p>\n

\u201cCool, cool. Sure, it wasn\u2019t for sale. That\u2019s the narrative Art of Play is gonna go with,\u201d the \u201cAmerican Idol\u201d star wrote on X.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cSo the whole conversation we had when I asked you if it was for sale whilst pointing to the price tag hanging on the wall with the title Singing Bird didn\u2019t happen as you elevator eyed me saying in a condescending tone \u2018yes, it\u2019s for sale but it costs 15,000 dollars so if you\u2019d like me to find something comparable for you I can,\u2019\u201d Clarkson wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat all never happened and now it\u2019s not for sale. Okay, cool. So you\u2019re not only rude, you\u2019re also a liar. Got it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer also hit back at the store owners\u2019 claim that their store had been \u201csuddenly attacked by 8 million people.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cBy the way, I obviously support small businesses because I was literally at a small business trying to purchase things,\u201d Clarkson wrote. \u201cI love small businesses and know they are important and I always support them, but you don\u2019t get a free pass to treat people less than in your store just because you are a small business. It\u2019s not that hard to be kind. I never blast people but you my friend were an exception.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYour store is really cool,\u201d she concluded. \u201cUnfortunately, you aren\u2019t.\u201d <\/p>\n

On Monday, the Art of Play released another statement on the viral incident<\/a>, claiming that the star was only in the store for five minutes. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe explained that while Molly is permanently attached to the wall and serves as a de facto mascot for our shop, a nearly identical automaton is owned by the creator of the machines, a brilliant artist named Bliss Kolb who lives in Seattle,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe told us he would be willing to part with Molly\u2019s twin for $15,000. We explained all of this to Kelly Clarkson,\u201d they continued, claiming they \u201coffered to show her a different singing bird automaton, made by a traditional clockmaking shop in Germany, that she could have taken home with her that day\u201d for $2,000.<\/p>\n
