Gov. Kathy Hochul faced some boos and hecklers giving her a thumbs-down as she marched uptown in Monday\u2019s 82nd annual Columbus Day parade<\/a> in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

Hochul, one of 35,000 participants, was flanked by Italian-American luminaries, Attorney General Letitia James and Catholic leaders as the parade wound its way past St. Patrick\u2019s Cathedral.<\/p>\n

The 68-year-old Democratic governor, who was raised Catholic, \u00a0got her share of support but did endure a few Bronx cheers from some disgruntled observers.<\/p>\n

\u201cGet out of New York, get out of there. You\u2019re a disgrace,\u201d yelled one belligerent parade delegate, dressed in a business suit and an Italian flag sash.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou hate Italians and Catholics,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Another berated her with taunts of \u201ccommunist,\u201d video showed.<\/p>\n

Notably absent from the parade was Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who sat out the celebration of Italian-American contributions to the city<\/a> due to his ideological opposition to Christopher Columbus.<\/p>\n

It was the second major parade Hizzoner sat out in his first year in office \u2014 he also opted not to march in the Israel Day Parade<\/a> this spring.<\/p>\n

Hochul, who is up for election next month, posted photos from the event and said on X she was honored to celebrate Italians\u2019 \u201crich culture and traditions\u201d although she notably did not mention Columbus Day by name.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got to celebrate Italian-Americans,\u201d the Democrat told reporters before the start of the march.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am delighted to be here for my fifth or seventh time marching with my best friends,\u201d she said. \u201cWe are gonna celebrate the food, the culture, the music, the vitality of the Italian community so we are going to celebrate Italian American Heritage Month through the month of October.\u201d<\/p>\n

US Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island) blasted Hochul and Mamdani as \u201cpathetic\u201d in a social media post after the parade.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew York has the largest Italian population in America and we have a Governor and a Mayor who can\u2019t say , \u2018Happy Columbus Day!\u2019\u201d she said<\/a>. \u201cAs the Italians say\u2026.DISGRAZIA!\u201d<\/p>\n

Hochul, who took office in 2021, is facing off against Republican Bruce Blakeman<\/a> as she seeks a second, complete four-term in the reliably blue Empire State.<\/p>\n

Election Day is Nov. 3.<\/p>\n
