Two massive new murals are bringing a splash of color, nature and Long Island history to Station Yards<\/a> in Ronkonkoma.<\/p>\n

The artworks, created by internationally recognized Spanish artist Lula Goce and Brooklyn-based artist Jenna Morello, were unveiled today, Monday, as part of a statewide celebration of public art.<\/p>\n

Goce\u2019s mural, \u201cThe Moving Garden,\u201d stretches across the Station Yards parking garage, featuring colorful flowers, birds and other elements of nature alongside tributes to Ronkonkoma\u2019s transportation history. Among the details are a historic train and an F-14 Tomcat fighter jet, a nod to Long Island\u2019s aviation heritage.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to create a moment of wonder within a place shaped by everyday movement,\u201d Goce said. \u201cI imagined nature flowing across the building, with flowers and birds connecting its separate surfaces and opening up an unexpected landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morello\u2019s mural, \u201cPassing Through,\u201d is located at The French Workshop near the Ronkonkoma Long Island Rail Road station. Inspired by the nearby railroad tracks, the artwork uses bold colors and unusual perspectives to create a sense of movement, leaving viewers wondering whether the tracks are coming or going.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince the mural is near the train station, I wanted to reinterpret the tracks through color and perspective so they aren\u2019t immediately recognizable and you\u2019re not quite sure whether they\u2019re coming or going,\u201d Morello said.<\/p>\n

The installations were coordinated by the Patchogue Arts Council and Museum of Contemporary Art Long Island in partnership with Station Yards developer TRITEC Real Estate Company. <\/p>\n

They are among four Long Island mural projects facilitated by the arts organization through the state\u2019s 2026 Cultivating Havens for the Arts through Regional Murals initiative, known as CHARM.<\/p>\n

\u201cPublic art is an important part of that connection,\u201d said Meaghan Coughlan Treat, chief operating officer of TRITEC, referring to the relationship between Station Yards and surrounding neighborhoods. \u201cBy bringing nature, color, and a more human scale to the built environment, these murals help soften the transition between Station Yards and the surrounding community while creating a stronger sense of place.\u201d<\/p>\n
