We expect Mayor Zohran Mamdani to stand firm against House hopeful Darializa Avila Chevalier and other blockheads now demanding the head of Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, who\u2019s doing her job in keeping the city safe.<\/p>\n

The Democratic Socialist extremists demand the mayor ax the commish over last week\u2019s ICE shooting<\/a>, as if the NYPD were somehow at fault: They apparently expect cops to arrest feds who are lawfully doing their duty, or at least to get out of the way if lefties want to riot over federal law enforcement. <\/p>\n

This, when major crime has hit historic lows<\/a> in murders and shootings \u2014 progress Mamdani is happy to own and knows he couldn\u2019t get under any police commissioner the left would like. <\/p>\n

Yes, the mayor is paying lip service to his old anti-cop agenda, insisting that plans are in progress to disband the Strategic Response Group, which is vital to policing demonstrations and handling large-scale chaos.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s also happily denouncing ICE for hauling in suspected gangbanger Oscar Belgal<\/a> in Marble Hill in an incident that would never have been so confrontational if the city and state didn\u2019t make it so hard for the feds to arrest criminal illegal immigrants in the first place.<\/p>\n

These unhinged antisemites also wax obscene about Tisch being a Jewish woman; the social-media posts get truly vile<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Mamdani\u2019s holding the line \u2014 while tossing the left a bone by ordering an audit<\/a> of the NYPD\u2019s use of force.<\/p>\n

That move may come back to haunt him, since he\u2019s installed cop-haters elsewhere in city government who could use this chance to pursue their agenda at the expense of his. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s easy for Chevalier & Co. to posture: Mamdani is the one voters will punish if crime rises because he takes their advice.<\/p>\n
