After winning 15 out of 16 games en route to the franchise\u2019s first NBA title in 53 years<\/a>, the reigning champs find themselves in unfamiliar territory.<\/p>\n

On a losing streak.<\/p>\n

The Knicks fell to 0-3 in the preseason after a 122-104 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday in a game each of the starters played 22 minutes, the most Mike Brown\u2019s first five have played through three exhibition games to start the 2026-27 season.<\/p>\n

Jalen Brunson scored 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting to go with five rebounds, three assists and three steals on the night. OG Anunoby added 15 points on 50% shooting to go with three steals, and Karl-Anthony Towns scored 11 points on three-of-six shooting from the field.<\/p>\n

The Knicks will play the second leg of their home-road back-to-back in Canada against the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday. Their preseason finale, again against the Raptors, will come on Thursday with Opening Night, a ring ceremony and a date with the Philadelphia 76ers awaiting on Oct. 20.<\/p>\n

ISSUES GUARDING THE POINT OF ATTACK<\/p>\n

Anthony Edwards scored 26 points in 25 minutes, Jaden McDaniels added 22 points in 24 minutes, and LaMelo Ball nearly posted a double-double with 10 points and seven assists, though he turned the ball over five times in 22 minutes of action. The Knicks had issues defending Minnesota\u2019s dynamic play-makers on Monday. They also allowed Trae Young and Anthony Davis to combine for 31 points in 17 combined minutes played, while Jaylen Brown torched the Knicks for 22 points in 17 minutes in the preseason opener in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

DEUCE ICE COLD<\/p>\n

Miles McBride finished with three points on one-of-five shooting from the field and one-of-four shooting from deep in 13 minutes on Monday. McBride, who has not yet agreed to a contract extension in New York, missed all four of his attempts from deep in the preseason opener against the Sixers and shot one-of-five from deep on Thursday against the Wizards<\/a> for a 2-of-13 clip through the midway point of the preseason.<\/p>\n

McBride shot 41.3% from deep and averaged a career-high 12 points per game last season in a year that was derailed by a need for core muscle surgery to repair a sports hernia mid-season.<\/p>\n

DADIET\u2019S RESPONSE<\/p>\n

One day after Brown urged Pacome Dadiet to \u201clet the three ball fly\u201d, the 2024 first-round pick cashed in for two-of-three shooting from deep for seven points in 14 minutes.<\/p>\n

The Knicks have until Nov. 2 to pick up or decline the fourth-year team option on Dadiet\u2019s contract.
