FOREST HILLS, Queens — A quiet, tree-lined street in Forest Hills, Queens, is gaining recognition for its connection to one of the world’s most famous superheroes.<\/p>\n

The neighborhood is home to 20 Ingram St., the fictional address of Peter Parker, better known as Spider-Man.<\/p>\n

Spider-Man first appeared in the comic book spotlight in 1962. A few issues later, it was revealed that Peter Parker lived in Forest Hills, and in 1989, his address was revealed as 20 Ingram St.<\/p>\n

Fans of the web-slinging superhero gathered Monday for a street dedication in his honor. Spider-Man Way is located at the intersection of Ascan Avenue and Ingram Street.<\/p>\n

Nick Lowe, editor of Spider-Man, reflected on the character’s enduring popularity.<\/p>\n

“Seeing all these kids running around here, it’s magical that this character created in 1962 still means something today,” Lowe said.<\/p>\n

Jack Shi, owner of the two-story house, welcomes fans who come to see the famous address.<\/p>\n

“Gentle, kind, brave, everyone likes it,” Shi said.<\/p>\n

One young fan described a particular devotion to the superhero.<\/p>\n

“I watched every single movie, and he’s really good and I am going to be him for Halloween,” the child said.<\/p>\n

Sam Berger, a New York state assemblyman, spoke about the character’s connection to the neighborhood.<\/p>\n

“For decades Spider-Man has been synonymous with Queens and Forest Hills in particular,” Berger said. “We want to be the heroes we see swinging into action.”<\/p>\n

Catalina Kaloferov also spoke about Spider-Man’s broad appeal.<\/p>\n

“Spider-Man and Peter Parker represent everyone because everyone can wear the mask,” Kaloferov said.<\/p>\n

Mark Ditko, nephew of Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko, said, “the DNA of Joe Simon, Jack Kirby and Ditko collided, and Spider-Man was born, I have to believe that no one would imagine what he would eventually become.”<\/p>\n

The character has continued to inspire people of all ages through the famous phrase, “With great power comes great responsibility.”
