WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 New York City mayoral-elect Zohran Mamdani<\/a> said he would reach out to President Donald Trump before being sworn into office.<\/p>\n

Mamdani said on Tuesday that the relationship between New York City leadership and the White House will be crucial to the city\u2019s success.<\/p>\n

\u201c[If] President Trump wants to speak about lowering the cost of living or delivering cheaper groceries, like he ran on [in 2024], I\u2019m there to have that conversation,\u201d he said, according to the New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He said he has a goal to make the city better and affordable for everyone who lives there.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m here to work for the benefit of everyone that calls the city home, and that wherever there is a possibility for working together toward that end, I\u2019m ready, and if [the administration\u2019s policies] are to the expense of those New Yorkers, I will fight,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

It isn\u2019t clear what specific date Mamdani would contact the administration.<\/p>\n

During the election, Trump backed former New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo for mayor.<\/p>\n

He also threatened to withhold funding from the city if Mamdani won the election.<\/p>\n
