Cal Hadley is one of a few residents who say construction to put up a new building on Bedford Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens is causing issues.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s like torture, that\u2019s the best way to express it,” said Hadley.<\/p>\n
Residents tell News 12 they’ve been filing 311 complaints and dealing with the issues since February.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you\u2019re inside, it\u2019s vibrating like\u2026 like one time we thought there was an earthquake going on,” said resident Doreen Campbell.<\/p>\n
Neighbors say they’ve experienced shaking from vibrations, loud noises into the night, and claim the construction has caused damage like cracks to their own homes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have the right, they can build, but at the cost of destroying every home here. Where’s the logic in that?” asked Hadley.<\/p>\n
While News 12 crews observed an after-hours variance permit on the site that would allow workers to do construction at night, residents tell News 12 they’re confused because the form has questions like \u201cIs all work being done within an enclosed building?\u201d which is answered as \u201cYes.\u201d But neighbors say they have observed work after hours being done outside the building.<\/p>\n
Hadley tells News 12 the residents have taken some of their concerns to Court.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhoever is involved with this, they’ve done this before. So you know what the laws are. You know what the building codes are. I follow them. But clearly, if they feel they can get away with certain things, so be it,” said Hadley.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for NYC Department of Buildings tells News 12 they’ve issued about 14 PATH\/ECB violations to the contractors since February.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the city agency tasked with regulating New York City\u2019s construction industry, the Department of Buildings is committed to ensuring that construction sites are safe and maintained according to Building Code. If DOB inspectors observe unsafe conditions on a work site, they will take enforcement actions against the General Contractor in charge of the site. We encourage members of the general public to call 311 if they believe that unsafe conditions are present on a work site.”<\/p>\n
Community Board 9 of Brooklyn tells News 12 they are working on a solution to the issues.<\/p>\n
