(WIBW) &#8211; The Manhattan community is rolling out a new exhibit to view for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Crisis Center, Inc. kicked off the Clothesline Project exhibit at the Manhattan Town Center with a reception on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The exhibit features shirts designed by survivors, supporters, family and friends, each supplying a reminder of the impact of violence. The exhibit will be on display through Friday, Oct. 16.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThey all have really unique messages around creating awareness, or victims\u2019 experiences. We even have one shirt dedicated to someone who was murdered, because of domestic violence,\u201d said Kathy Ray, executive director of the Crisis Center.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">You can connect with Safeline of Kansas for 24\/7 support by texting \u201csafe\u201d to 847411 or calling 1-888-363-2287.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">This is the second year the Manhattan Crisis Center put on the exhibit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The display has grown in size over time. 28 shirts were featured in 2025, and 35 shirts were available for the 2026 display. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theclotheslineproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.theclotheslineproject.org\/\">Clothesline<\/a> website, 500 projects are estimated to be on display nationally and internationally, with an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 shirts. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The project was founded in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in 1990 by a coalition of women\u2019s groups to raise awareness of violence against women. The initial display included 31 shirts on a village green as part of the annual \u201cTake Back the Night\u201d march and rally. <\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WIBW.
