New York\u2019s musical theater scene has room for singing cats<\/a>, founding fathers<\/a> and, apparently, a satirical prison comedy featuring Luigi Mangione, Diddy and Sam Bankman-Fried. If that last lineup made you do a double take,\u00a0get ready for an encore: Luigi: The Musical<\/a>\u00a0returns\u00a0to Manhattan next month with a newly announced cast boasting some hefty theater credits.<\/p>\n

The dark comedy will play a limited engagement at The Green Room 42 from November 9 to 14. According to the production\u2019s casting announcement, the show has been retooled following its initial sold-out New York run, giving curious theatergoers another chance to see how this particular corner of the news cycle translates into song.<\/p>\n

Colin LeMoine takes on the title role of Mangione, with credits including Hadestown<\/a>, Wicked<\/a>\u00a0and Hello, Dolly!. Kyle Freeman,\u00a0whose credits include\u00a0The Wiz, Titanique<\/a>\u00a0and A Strange Loop, will play the Guard. Taylor Colleton, whose r\u00e9sum\u00e9 includes Water for Elephants, plays Diddy, while co-writer Andr\u00e9 Margatini appears as Bankman-Fried.<\/p>\n

The musical draws on the cultural phenomenon surrounding Mangione, using original songs and satire to examine celebrity, media coverage, public perception and Americans\u2019 relationships with their institutions. The premise is described as a prison comedy inspired by the high-profile inmates held at Brooklyn\u2019s Metropolitan Detention Center.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Before arriving in New York, the show premiered at San Francisco\u2019s Taylor Street Theatre in June 2025. That initial run sold out, prompting additional performances at larger venues. The production subsequently attracted national media attention and made its way to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, adding an international stop to its theatrical journey.<\/p>\n
