B1 buses and B6 buses will now be equipped with Automated Camera Enforcement after a 60-day warning period. <\/p>\n
Brooklyn is adding Automatic Camera Enforcement (ACE) technology to two Brooklyn bus routes,\u00a0according to\u00a0the Brooklyn Eagle<\/a>.<\/p>\n Additional bus routes will now have the technology after a 60-day warning period which began Monday, Oct. 12.<\/p>\n The cameras will be installed on B1 buses, which run from Bay Ridge to Manhattan Beach and on B6 buses, which run cross-borough from Bath Beach to East New York. The new technology will also be added to Q65 buses running between Flushing and Jamaica.\u00a0<\/p>\n The program’s goal is to improve service by enhancing traffic compliance, as vehicles improperly using busways will receive warning notices in the mail for an initial period of 60 days, followed by a find of $50 for the first offense and up to $250 for repeat violators.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Penalties can be received for obstructive bus stops by parking or driving in bus lanes. The rules apply at all times, unless posted signs on routes specify otherwise.\u00a0<\/p>\n ACE technology is currently active on 76 bus routes. According to the MTA<\/a>, the bus-mounted cameras have improved bus speeds across the city, with some segments on these routes achieving gains of nearly 30 percent.\u00a0<\/p>\n In 2023, the New York State Legislature passed a provision to expand Automated Camera Enforcement. Operations\u00a0administered in partnership between the MTA, the NYC Department of Finance, and the NYC Department of Transportation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
