{"id":373302,"date":"2026-10-14T21:52:13","date_gmt":"2026-10-14T21:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/373302\/"},"modified":"2026-10-14T21:52:13","modified_gmt":"2026-10-14T21:52:13","slug":"new-york-hall-of-science-gets-hands-on-for-national-chemistry-week-qns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/373302\/","title":{"rendered":"New York Hall of Science gets hands-on for National Chemistry Week \u2013 QNS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s National Chemistry Week and the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) is celebrating with a day of hands-on activities and demonstrations this Sunday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme is \u201cChemistry Under Construction\u201d and will explore the chemistry behind building, creating and transforming the world.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>The celebration \u2014 hosted in partnership with the New York Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and PepsiCo \u2014 also marks two important milestones: the 150th anniversary of ACS and the 135th anniversary of its New York Section.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The ACS New York Section and NYSCI have partnered on National Chemistry Week for decades, impacting more than 25,000 children through hands-on experiments.\n<\/p>\n<p>The hands-on chemistry activities and demonstrations will include Crystal Construction: Build Hot Ice, Making Slime, Invisible Ink, Acid Rain in Action, Fizzing Lemonade, Build a Biomaterial: Alginate Beads, and a \u201cmake your own flavored water\u201d demo, hosted by PepsiCo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-625686\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/47689969461_6ad246f168_k.jpg.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\"  \/>Participants at last year\u2019s National Chemistry Week celebration. Photo courtesy of Andrew Kelly\/Bowery Image Group<\/p>\n<p>NYSCI, located inside Flushing Meadows Corona Park in <a href=\"https:\/\/qns.com\/neighborhoods\/corona\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Corona<\/a>, aims to nurture generations of passionate learners, critical thinkers and active citizens through an approach called Design, Make, Play. This approach emphasizes <a href=\"https:\/\/qns.com\/2026\/09\/climate-week-nyc-nysci\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">open-ended exploration, imaginative learning and personal relevance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>ACS New York Section, founded in 1891, is a nonprofit professional organization dedicated to advancing chemistry, supporting chemical professionals and promoting scientific education and outreach throughout the New York metropolitan area. It is currently celebrating its 135th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>Through activities such as National Chemistry Week, the Section works to increase public awareness and appreciation of chemistry, inspire future generations of scientists, and strengthen connections between academia, industry and the broader community.<\/p>\n<p>PepsiCo has been a sponsor of the National Chemistry Week Celebration for over 20 years.
