A bicyclist was fatally struck by an FDNY ambulance as he pedaled near a Staten Island firehouse earlier this week, cops said.<\/p>\n
The unidentified man, believed to be in his 40s, was biking south in the northbound lane on Richmond Avenue in Graniteville around 10:30 p.m. Monday when the emergency vehicle hit him \u2014 knocking him from his ride, police said.<\/p>\n
The ambulance driver, a 58-year-old man, was traveling south on Richmond Avenue and began turning left on Christopher Street when he hit the cyclist, authorities said.<\/p>\n

The ambulance was not responding to an emergency and lights and sirens were not active at the time of the crash, the FDNY said.<\/p>\n
The victim, who was riding a regular, non-motorized two-wheeled bicycle, suffered severe head and body trauma when he hit the pavement, cops said. <\/p>\n
First responders transported the bicyclist to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. <\/p>\n

The deadly collision happened a short distance from the FDNY\u2019s Engine Company 166 and Ladder Company 86.<\/p>\n
No criminality was suspected in the fatal crash as of Wednesday, police said.<\/p>\n
