Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s allies are publicly breaking with him over his handpicked police commissioner <\/a>\u2014 and Hizzoner is livid that the socialist House candidate he went out on a limb to endorse is leading the charge.<\/p>\n City Hall staffers have been openly whining about alleged ally Darializa Avila Chevalier \u2014 whom Mamdani endorsed just a few months ago<\/a> during the primaries \u2014 after she led a crusade to slam NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch after ICE agents shot an illegal migrant in the Bronx.<\/p>\n Darializa Avila Chevalier, seen here at last week\u2019s violent anti-ICE protest in the Bronx, is already getting on City Hall\u2019s nerves before even taking office. OLGA FEDOROVA\/EPA\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n \u201cThey were pissed about what she did on social media and her public rhetoric on NYPD,\u201d one source with knowledge said. \u201cCity Hall was like, \u2018what the f\u2013k are you doing!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The ICE shooting may mark the end of the socialist honeymoon for some Mamdani supporters, as some lefty pols and the national branch of his comrades in the Democratic Socialists of America push for Tisch\u2019s ouster<\/a> despite Hizzoner standing by his commissioner.<\/p>\n Another source said that folks in the admin griped that, \u201cthis was a direct undermining of Mamdani.\u201d<\/p>\n The DSA dysfunction unfolded publicly last Friday when Chevalier rage-tweeted about immigration officials shooting a suspected gang memberas he fled arrest in a car<\/a>. The supposed Mamdani ally accused Tisch and the NYPD of violating the Big Apple\u2019s sanctuary city laws that bar cops from assisting ICE.<\/p>\n \u201cLast night, the NYPD and Commissioner Tisch violated the spirit, if not the letter, of our sanctuary city policies and fueled the Trump Administration\u2019s attempt to demonize our communities,\u201d she wrote in her nearly 400-word tirade<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThe NYPD\u2019s Strategic Response Group must be disbanded as quickly as possible, and Commissioner Tisch must step down,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n The NYPD did not assist ICE in the immigration arrest, nor did the SRG respond to the protest.<\/p>\n NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch and Mayor Zohran Mamdani attend the NYPD unveiling of a memorial wall on Oct. 14, 2026. Janet Mayer\/INSTARimages.com<\/p>\n City Hall was also annoyed about Chevalier encouraging the anti-ICE protests, worried that any signs of disorder could give the Trump administration reason to flood the streets, sources said.<\/p>\n The congressional candidate had also ranted in her screed about being pushed during an aggressive protest in Marble Hill<\/a> Thursday night after video captured her getting in a calm police supervisor\u2019s face, accusing him of escalating the situation.<\/p>\n \u201cShe is throwing her own fireball rhetoric to rally the folks,\u201d one source said, adding, \u201cBut instigating doesn\u2019t help.\u201d<\/p>\n DSA candidate Chevalier on cover of The Post on Oct. 12, 2026. <\/p>\n But the calls from the far-left fellow democratic socialist set off a media firestorm for Mamdani, who appointed Tisch \u2014 a Zionist Jew, despite his and his party\u2019s outspoken criticism of Israel \u2014 and vowed to disband the SRG during the campaign.<\/a><\/p>\n Hizzoner, who dodged the city\u2019s press corps for days, was inundated with demands from his socialist comrades and the national DSA chapter to get rid of the police commissioner and honor his campaign pledge when it came to dissolving the specialized police unit.<\/p>\n DSA member and state Senate candidate Illapa Sairitupac, who was also endorsed by the mayor, joined the call <\/a>after Chevalier.<\/p>\n \u201cAbolish ICE, disband the SRG, fire Tisch,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n The NYC DSA chapter, whose leaders are close friends of the mayor, took a softer tone, saying Tisch should be fired if she can\u2019t confront ICE.<\/p>\n \u201cJessica Tisch must get ICE out of New York and end NYPD complicity with these terrorists,\u201d the group wrote on social media. \u201cIf the Commissioner can\u2019t put a stop to these injustices, she must be fired.\u201d<\/p>\n Neither of the other two other House candidates that Mamdani endorsed, Brad Lander and Claire Valdez, issued similar calls.<\/p>\n But insiders told The Post that Chevalier doesn\u2019t plan on letting up.<\/p>\n The bombastic soon-to-be member of the House of Representatives and her team are working on a speech \u2014 potentially on Election Night or sooner \u2014 to call on Tisch to be fired.<\/p>\n Sources said that the young mayor was talked into endorsing Chevalier by his adviser, Morris Katz<\/a>, but isn\u2019t a fan of her.<\/p>\n
