{"id":374316,"date":"2026-10-15T23:24:43","date_gmt":"2026-10-15T23:24:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/374316\/"},"modified":"2026-10-15T23:24:43","modified_gmt":"2026-10-15T23:24:43","slug":"bag-containing-white-powder-found-at-fdny-firehouse-in-lower-manhattan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/374316\/","title":{"rendered":"Bag containing white powder found at FDNY firehouse in Lower Manhattan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Both the NYPD and the FDNY are investigating the discovery of a small plastic bag containing a white powder \u2014 believed to be narcotics \u2014 which was found in the restroom at a Lower Manhattan firehouse, officials and police sources said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The bag was found by a firefighter inside the bathroom at the <a href=\"https:\/\/5280fire.com\/home\/other-states-fire-apparatus-stations\/new-york\/new-york-city-fire-department-fdny\/new-york-engine-4-ladder-15\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Engine Company 4\/Ladder Company 15<\/a> firehouse on South St. near Old Slip in the Financial District around 10:15 a.m., an FDNY spokeswoman confirmed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"The firehouse for Engine Company 4 and Ladder Company 15 is pictured Thursday, October, 15, 2026 in Manhattan, New York. (Barry Williams\/ New York Daily News)<\/p>\n<p>The NYPD was called in Thursday afternoon to voucher the bag and conduct tests to see what the white powder is. The department has already ruled out Anthrax, an NYPD source said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t call it a drug raid. That\u2019s a little dramatic,\u201d one firefighter at the firehouse said about the NYPD\u2019s arrival. \u201cIt\u2019s not our job to secure or sequester evidence.
