He was later acquitted on the intentional murder charge and pleaded guilty to the other.

Incident details

The Brooklyn Park Police Department responded to the Park Haven Apartments, located at 6917 76th Ave. N., on an early winter morning.

According to the criminal complaint, officers observed people coming out of the apartment complex towards the parking lot while dozens remained in the common areas inside. On the third-floor stairwell, they reportedly found an adult male on the floor with a gunshot wound to his chest.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced deceased.

Eyewitnesses reportedly said the shooting happened inside the unit where the victim lived. Officers made entry into the unit and found a discharged cartridge casing on the entryway floor and “what appeared to be a small trail of blood” leading to where the victim was found, according to the complaint.

Warren was identified as one of the men involved in an argument prior to the shooting. When one witness tried to intervene, Warren allegedly put a gun to their head and led them to disengage. Warren and the victim then entered a bathroom, according to the complaint.

The victim was reportedly seen exiting the bathroom moments later when a single gunshot was heard. Several witnesses reported Warren and others ran from the apartment and drove away before police arrived. As he left, Warren allegedly told people to call 911 to try to save the victim.

Hours later, St. Paul police stopped a vehicle in which Warren was riding with two other men. According to the complaint, officers found a backpack containing multiple loaded firearms and gun parts, in Warren’s possession. Police also reportedly recovered a gun barrel wrapped in a sock on Warren’s person.

In an interview with investigators, Warren reportedly gave conflicting accounts. He initially claimed he did not remember who he was with or having the backpack because he was under the influence. He later acknowledged being at the apartment complex but denied being at the party or involved in the shooting. He also claimed he told others to call 911 after hearing a gunshot, despite insisting he was not inside.

Warren was sentenced Oct. 12 in Hennepin County District Court to 15 years in prison. He has credit for 273 days already served.

A Brooklyn Park man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of murder for…

[36
98,100,99,7902,114198,137782,9,24,63,137784,137783
post-374390","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-brooklyn","tag-brooklyn","tag-brooklyn-headlines","tag-brooklyn-news","tag-brooklyn-park-police-department","tag-hennepin-county-court","tag-james-lamar-warren","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-nyc","tag-saint-paul-police","tag-sebestyen-james-lamar-warren
["GET
