{"id":374647,"date":"2026-10-16T08:58:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-16T08:58:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/374647\/"},"modified":"2026-10-16T08:58:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-16T08:58:07","slug":"nyc-comptroller-levine-urges-anthropic-to-pause-us-ipo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/374647\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC Comptroller Levine Urges Anthropic to Pause US IPO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"reuters\">Anthropic should delay its US IPO until it addresses concerns about safety, governance and the pace of development, urged New York City Comptroller Mark Levine in a letter to the AI lab\u2019s CEO Dario Amodei.<\/p>\n<p>AI systems have advanced rapidly over the past 12 months, outpacing regulation and drawing scrutiny over potential risks, including safety, cybersecurity threats and misuse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of proceeding headlong with its IPO, the company should focus its energies on addressing these unprecedented risks,\u201d Levine wrote in the letter seen by Reuters on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>NYC\u2019s public pension funds have a combined $7 million in exposure to Anthropic through private equity holdings, the comptroller\u2019s office told Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic, which is reportedly targeting a $2 trillion valuation in the listing, did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic\u2019s own research has highlighted the risks posed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reutersconnect.com\/all?search=all%3AL8N45V1NQ&amp;linkedFromStory=true\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">increasingly autonomous AI models<\/a>, which have demonstrated potentially harmful capabilities in controlled tests, including sabotaging code, facilitating fraud and manipulating information.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, in a pre-IPO meeting, Anthropic told prospective investors that revenue in the third quarter surged 45% from the prior quarter, Reuters reported, citing sources. Its closest rival, ChatGPT maker OpenAI, is expected to list in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>New York City\u2019s comptroller oversees the city\u2019s finances, manages its pension funds and acts as a watchdog over public spending and financial practices.
