Listen, it\u2019s not as though getting an apartment in New York has ever been easy. But one could probably argue it has never been harder than it is right now. The most god-awful studios are regularly renting for thousands and thousands of dollars with lines of interested tenants out the door. Here, we\u2019ll find the actually worth-looking-ats, the actually worth-the-costs, and the surprisingly affordable-for-those-parquet-floors from around the internet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This week I looked at Brooklyn (because I\u2019m a masochist who never learns her lesson), and listen, I tried my best. But I did come up with this thesis, spoken-word poem, or whatever you want to call it:<\/p>\n

Brooklyn. The borough of compromises.<\/p>\n

You can have windows, or you can have bedrooms.\u00a0<\/p>\n

You can have original details, or you can have a bathroom that\u2019s been assaulted by the Home Depot tile section.<\/p>\n

You can have a neighborhood you want, or you can have some money left over to take a train to that neighborhood.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The love-it-or-leave-it Brooklyn. Welcome to another week of Brooklyn real estate.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

$4,100, 3-bedroom (pictured below):<\/a> Good bones and a beautiful building (built in the Queen Anne style in the 1920s). The apartment is a little worse for wear in the bathroom department and decidedly lacking in the window department, but it\u2019s the best deal I\u2019ve seen in the neighborhood in quite some time.<\/p>\n

$6,275, 2-bedroom (pictured at top):<\/a> If you\u2019re looking to get off the beaten path, then an industrial loft across from the Navy Yard could be for you?<\/p>\n

$3,850, 1-bedroom (pictured below):<\/a> Not for the imagination-challenged. Definitely needs an inspired eye and a little elbow grease.<\/p>\n

$6,000, 2-bedroom (pictured below):<\/a> Cozy duplex with exposed beams and an attic bedroom that the listing suggests you use as your office. I say bedroom (but you might need a chamber pot up there).<\/p>\n

$15,000, 5-bedroom:<\/a>\u00a0Divide this by five, and it\u2019s only $3,000 a month per person. Just make sure your kids are gainfully employed and understand the importance of paying rent on time.<\/p>\n

$7,250, 3-bedroom:<\/a> The windows are nice, and it\u2019s a brownstone in stroller heaven, but if I\u2019m not mistaken, this is a single floor \u2026 that they\u2019re somehow calling a three-bedroom \u2026 I hope for all our sakes that I\u2019m wrong, but you might need to go and investigate yourself.<\/p>\n

$8,950, 2-bedroom (pictured below):<\/a> I\u2019m done expending energy to be outraged by the prices in this neighborhood. I\u2019m ready to roll over and passively admire homes like this one, with its strange but intriguing layout, owing to the building\u2019s former life as a public school. Now it\u2019s a bachelor pad.\u00a0Every turn is unexpected and welcomed, and there\u2019s a fireplace. Okay?<\/p>\n

$7,800, 3-bedroom (pictured below):<\/a> If you\u2019re going to charge me $7,000-plus, you\u2019d better be promising an entire house that\u2019s grand in every way. Like this freestanding mansion with herringbone floors, stained glass, and 18 windows on the first floor alone.<\/p>\n

$4,250, 3-bedroom:<\/a> Lovely waxed parquet, a blinding amount of natural light. The maybe-faux marble in the bathroom is also somewhat blinding, as is the amount of track lighting.<\/p>\n

$3,750, 2-bedroom:<\/a> Parlor-floor apartment \u2014 someone got a little handsy with the renovation, but there are traces of charm left over.<\/p>\n

$2,895, 1-bedroom:<\/a> A totally acceptable co-op in an elevator building with prewar-style details, including built-in shelving and rounded doorways. (Though the building dates to 1942, so perhaps we should call them mid-war details?)<\/p>\n

$2,100, 1-bedroom:<\/a> If there were an Emmy award for Best Lobby, this building would definitely definitely be in the running with its prewar splendor. The apartment itself is fine!<\/p>\n

$2,150, 1-bedroom (pictured below):<\/a> Cheap and far away \u2014 with parquets, sweetly arched passageways, and colorful ceramics in the bathroom.<\/p>\n

$3,500, 2-bedroom (pictured below):<\/a> Ground-floor apartment with charming stained glass and nice hardwoods. Grim bathroom, because life is about trade-offs!<\/p>\n
