FORDHAM, The Bronx (WABC) — A suspicious white powder that was discovered in a mailed envelope in a building housing Rep. Ritchie Torres’ district office in the Bronx on Friday, was deemed non-hazardous, according to police.<\/p>\n
Six people were exposed to the suspicious white powder was discovered at 540 E. Fordham Rd. between Lorillard Place and Bathgate Avenue just after 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
Hazmat units responded, and an after an investigation, the substance was determined to non-hazardous.<\/p>\n
Officials say no civilians that were exposed exhibited any symptoms.<\/p>\n
It’s not clear yet who the envelope was addressed to.<\/p>\n
It’s the latest in a string of incidents<\/a> nationwide. Senators and elected officials in 18 other states have received letters with white powder, but sources told ABC News that many of those were found to be harmless.<\/p>\n Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was one of the lawmakers to whom an intercepted letter was sent, according to a person familiar.<\/p>\n The district office of Connecticut Democratic Senator Chris Murphy was also sent a letter, but it was intercepted by postal service authorities, according to a statement from his office.<\/p>\n ABC News also confirmed that Democratic lawmakers Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Sen.
