The four new routes are now issuing violations after it went through a 60-day warning period that began in August.

The cameras, which are mounted to buses, issue tickets to drivers who double park, block bus stops or illegally use bus lanes, according to the MTA.

The automated camera enforcement program is now active on 71 bus routes, including the four new routes.

The automated camera enforcement routes help bus riders, keep bus lanes and bus stops clear, keeps traffic moving and makes roads safer for all users.

Fines start at $50 and increase by $50 for each additional violation received — up to a maximum of $250 per violation. Violations can be paid online, by mobile app, by mail or in-person at an NYC Department of Finance Business Center. Unpaid fines can result in additional fees and could result in your vehicle being booted, towed or having its registration blocked.

More than 2,000 buses, representing one third of the entire MTA bus fleet, are now equipped with the cameras. The program covers approximately 825 route miles and serves over one million riders on an average weekday, the agency said.

The expansion is part of the MTA’s Next Stop: Fast Buses, Better Service plan, which calls for adding cameras to 25 more routes in 2026. The authority is also working with city partners to strengthen bus lane enforcement.

The program launched in June 2024 and has rapidly expanded from select routes to a citywide initiative. The MTA said the cameras have improved bus speeds, reduced traffic accidents and kept bus stops clear.

The program operates in partnership with the New York City Department of Transportation and the Department of Finance. Signage on each corridor indicates which routes have camera enforcement.
