The New York City offices of at least three U.S. Congress members were sent white powder in the mail on Friday, cops said.<\/p>\n

Six people were exposed after an envelope was opened inside Rep. Ritchie Torres\u2019s E. Fordham Rd. office near Lorillard Place in the Bronx<\/a> around 1 p.m., police said.<\/p>\n

An NYPD Emergency Service Unit responded and declared the substance non-hazardous.<\/p>\n

Torres said the FDNY and FBI also responded to the threat.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are living in a time when threats against elected officials and their staff have become the new normal,\u201d Torres said in a statement on X<\/a>. \u201cAlthough my team is understandably shaken by the incident, we will not be deterred from serving the people of NY-15 in the Bronx.<\/p>\n

In Queens<\/a>, two people were exposed to a white powder sent by mail to Rep. Tom Suozzi\u2019s office on Northern Blvd. near Douglaston Parkway around 4:05 p.m., according to police.<\/p>\n

And in Brooklyn, another two people were exposed to white powder at House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries\u2019 office on Neptune Ave. near Ocean Parkway<\/a> around 4:45 p.m., cops said.<\/p>\n

ESU responded in both cases. It was not immediately clear if the substances were hazardous, but there were no injuries in either incident.<\/p>\n

The suspicious envelopes were received the day after federal investigators told CBS News that seven Democratic senators\u2019 offices and one Congress member\u2019s office were sent similar letters<\/a>, including some that contained unknown substances. At least two GOP senators also were sent letters on Friday, CBS reported.<\/p>\n

Most of the envelopes were intercepted before they were delivered.
