Fashion Institute of Technology student Annabel Richter bravely moved thousands of miles away from home to chase her dreams alone in Gotham, a shattered family friend told The Post, but her courageous solo journey was cut short by a twisted predator<\/a> who allegedly drugged her and then raped her while she was dying from a fentanyl overdose.<\/p>\n Prosecutors say Moises Freire, 19, drugged Richter, 21, and her roommate inside their Chelsea dorm<\/a> in March. <\/p>\n Annabel Richter\u2019s mother shared an angelic photo of her on Instagram. Instagram\/Flavia Rocha<\/p>\n Both unconscious women were eventually rushed to the hospital but only the roommate survived.<\/p>\n \u201cShe struck me as very sweet and kind,\u201d Christina Perez, a longtime friend of Richter\u2019s grandmother, told The Post Friday. \u201cShe was very bright.\u201d<\/p>\n Perez said Richter\u2019s entire family was living in Sao Paulo, Brazil, except her grandmother, who lives in Washington state, when she went to college.<\/p>\n \u201cShe wanted to go to New York,\u201d Perez said. \u201cThe idea worried me a bit because she didn\u2019t have anyone there \u2014 her family was still in Brazil.\u201d<\/p>\n The grandmother, Virginia \u201cGini\u201d Richter, is in shambles and \u201csuffering a great deal\u201d since the horrific death.<\/p>\n She said the rest of Richter\u2019s family came to the states for her memorial service in Portland, Ore. <\/p>\n Richter was described as \u201csweet and \u201cbright.\u201d Instagram\/Flavia Rocha<\/p>\n \u201cI can only imagine what it\u2019s like for her parents. It\u2019s a terrible situation. Very, very sad,\u201d Perez said. <\/p>\n Richter\u2019s mother Flavia Rocha, a Brazilian poet and journalist, shared a tear-jerking tribute to her daughter on Instagram a few days after she died.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our daughter Annabel, so dearly loved by all of us. Her light remains alive in our hearts. Forever,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n Her whole family was in Brazil, except her grandmother, when she went to FIT. Stephen Yang for NY Post<\/p>\n Rocha also shared a poem Richter wrote when she was 10 years old titled \u201cWhat is Red?\u201d She shared an angelic photo of her daughter in a light pink top.<\/p>\n \u201cBel and I would often discuss how women who suffered violence would rarely have a voice. I hope that Annabel\u2019s story brings awareness, and meets justice,\u201d the heartbroken mother previously told The Post.<\/p>\n Freire allegedly told the women he was bringing them cocaine from Mexico \u2014 even after he\u2019d tried the fentanyl a week earlier and likened it to \u201cpoison\u201d in a text to a friend, according to shocking court papers unsealed Thursday.<\/p>\n Freire, who was not an FIT student,<\/a> allegedly gave both victims the dangerous drug in their dorm room on March 18. It\u2019s not clear how Richter and her roommate knew Freire.<\/p>\n Richter believed she was taking cocaine, prosecutors said. Instagram\/Flavia Rocha<\/p>\n He then raped Richter while she was unconscious, prosecutors say, and allegedly waited 45 minutes before calling campus security. First responders gave them both Narcan before rushing them to the hospital.<\/p>\n Freire also allegedly took photos of Richter while she was knocked out and naked from the waist down to share with his friends. <\/p>\n
