NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) \u2014 Plans are in the works to create a ferry route from New York City to Atlantic City. <\/p>\n
Seastreak would operate the ferry route. The company already has two ocean-ready ships that could make the 2.5-hour trip.<\/p>\n
Tommy Carr with DEEM Enterprises is helping to facilitate the deal. He said a round-trip ticket would cost $145. It could carry up to 600 passengers and would have TVs and a bar.<\/p>\n
\u201cMayor Small, we had meetings with the City of Atlantic City, the entire administration. We had meetings with all of the casino owners in Atlantic City. We\u2019re meeting with the state. And the good thing is \u2014 there was not one person who was against it,\u201d Carr said.<\/p>\n
The ferry would dock at the marina near the Golden Nugget, and passengers could catch the jitney from there to get anywhere they want. Carr said they are still working everything out, and it\u2019s not a done deal yet, but they are looking to start it up next Memorial Day. <\/p>\n
He said it will likely require some subsidies.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd that could be either casinos giving out vouchers: if you come to the casino, you get a free round-trip ferry ride.
