A family text message on her sister\u2019s phone is what triggered the raid on embattled \u201cSquad\u201d Rep. Ilhan Omar\u2019s (D-Minn.) Washington, DC, home, according to a bombshell report.<\/p>\n
Federal investigators seized the phone of Omar\u2019s sister, Sahra Noor, earlier this year, as they began looking into whether Somalia-born Omar conspired to commit immigration fraud when she came to the US, three people familiar with the matter told the New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n The text messages were used to secure a federal judge\u2019s approval for Department of Homeland Security agents to raid Omar\u2019s home Monday<\/a>, when they seized the congresswoman\u2019s phone, passport, notebooks and personal computers.<\/p>\n A text message on sister Sarah Noor\u2019s phone is what triggered the raid on Omar\u2019s DC house.<\/p>\n Noor, who currently lives in Kenya,\u00a0skipped a scheduled event <\/a>in Rochester, Thursday, to promote her new book, \u201cSalt in the Snow: A Somali Immigrant Story,\u201d citing a \u201cfamily emergency\u201d amid the fallout from the raid.<\/p>\n Federal agents also went dumpster diving to collect DNA from Omar\u2019s trash before the raid, sources told NewsNation<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cTo me, if they are obviously trying to obtain DNA, then, yes, that is a very easy get, especially if it was discarded even in a trash can,\u201d former FBI special agent Tracy Walder told the outlet.<\/p>\n The evidence is expected to go before a federal grand jury in Minnesota, to determine whether Omar and her family lied when they immigrated to the US in 1995.<\/p>\n The feds have issued subpoenas to several members of Omar\u2019s family.<\/p>\n
