{"id":375993,"date":"2026-10-18T01:54:26","date_gmt":"2026-10-18T01:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/375993\/"},"modified":"2026-10-18T01:54:26","modified_gmt":"2026-10-18T01:54:26","slug":"cheese-sold-in-new-york-recalled-over-potential-e-coli-contamination-fda-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/375993\/","title":{"rendered":"Cheese sold in New York recalled over potential E. coli contamination, FDA says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"EHPYOPKB3BCLPMR6ICYSWLOBNE\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. &#8212; Raw mild cheddar cheese produced by a New York dairy is being recalled over potential contamination with two strains of E. coli bacteria, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/safety\/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts\/family-farmstead-dairy-announces-recall-raw-mild-cheddar-cheese-due-potential-e-coli-o26h11-and?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=govdelivery#recall-announcement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/safety\/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts\/family-farmstead-dairy-announces-recall-raw-mild-cheddar-cheese-due-potential-e-coli-o26h11-and?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=govdelivery#recall-announcement\">according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6U32ZRFHBJFNNLNCXWC4FBLXT4\">Family Farmstead Dairy, based in Worcester, New York, announced the recall on Oct. 15 after testing identified Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O26:H11 and O45:H2 in samples of its raw cheddar cheese.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ROJTU6OLHBBUNCJCDAUOHWCOAY\">The recalled product is Family Farmstead Dairy Raw Mild Cheddar Cheese with lot code and best-by date of July 22, 2027. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"I4MJD5X5U5BOFEJEJJL24GTOOA\">The affected cheese was distributed to grocery stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia and Massachusetts, with the possibility of further distribution to other states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5XI6JLCDFFFA3DQGE4OPKQCPR4\">No illnesses or allergic reactions had been reported in connection with the recall as of the FDA\u2019s announcement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"C6X7PEYPJRFTHFKMA4DPIEKDEE\">Consumers who purchased the affected cheese are advised not to eat it. The product should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase for a full refund. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"677UG64HLFF3NFM3IE4FIDSNLU\">No other Family Farmstead Dairy products are included in the recall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MPXDYJSVABGJ5PXXEHK4ZN7RHQ\">E. coli infections can cause diarrhea, which may be bloody.
