Smith was 20-of-30 passing for 252 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT, his first of the season. RB Braelon Allen<\/a>\u00a0had another strong performance rushing for 78 yards on 17 carries (4.6 per) and added 26 yards on 2 receptions. Allen’s 91 scrimmage yards in the first half were the most in any half by a Jet this season.<\/p>\n

It was Cooper’s first game back after sustaining an ankle injury in Week 1 and being placed on injured reserve. The rookie wideout was the Jets’ leading receiver with 103 yards. CB\u00a0Brandon Stephens<\/a>\u00a0set up Cooper’s TD by defending a pass intended for WR AJ Brown on fourth-and-5. Brown was QB Drake Maye’s most targeted receiver but was held to 3 receptions on 10 targets for 27 yards.<\/p>\n

The Patriots extended their lead with a TD to start the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t capitalize off the first interception of Smith.<\/p>\n

To start the game, the Green & White had orchestrated a methodical 13-play drive on their opening possession using nearly 7 minutes of the clock before Sanders scored a 42-yard field goal. An offensive pass interference call erased an apparent TD pass to Cooper.<\/p>\n

The Patriots scored twice inside the final two minutes of the first half to take a 17-3 lead and they had the ball to start the third quarter. A 32-yard field goal and 9-yard TD increased their lead before the break. They Jets took away a majority of New England’s explosive options, but its wide receivers broke a few tackles on shorter passes for chunk gains.<\/p>\n

Other than the 42-yard TD Maye threw to WR Romeo Doubs in the first quarter, the Patriots only had two other plays longer than 20 yards. The Jets turned the ball over on downs twice in the first half after rushes on fourth down were short, but the Patriots were limited to just a field goal.
